Question Disposal of Used Motor Oil

Hello members,

I am looking at performing an oil change on my BA Fairmont. I realise that I will need to dispose of the used oil that will be drained from the car. Does anyone in the Parramatta area where I can dispose of the used oil ??

Nothing like being environmentally conscious and dispose of it thoughtfully, besides I haven't got anywhere else to put it

In Perth we can put it out with our recycling for pick up, along with batteries,or we can go to the tip and they have a massive drum we can tip into.
Sounds like your local shires aren't doing the right thing.
Get onto your local MP.

I pour mine along the side of the fence, it kills the grass there so i don't have to do the edges.

The local tip usually accepts it, or try your local council

We used to use old sump oil at the Dandy drags in the early 1990s. Put it on the road and watch the boys go!

the last one i did i poured it on a vacant block of lands grass just down the road... around a tree and the fence...
otherwise i just take it into work and use the waste oil container that we pay to get emptied by the recycle company...
but not everyone has that privilege

if your going to get it picked up, you might aswell store a few changesworth, as they will probably charge youa call out fee aswell as percentage for what they take...
no use paying them to come out and pick up 6 litres of oil...
try and find a suitable container to store it in for a while...
let us know what its worth to be picked up...

My council does for sure - for free. No hassle at all. Except my neighbour often wants the oil to pour on tree stumps b4 I get it.

Do you like your neighbours?

Nah just kidding.
I've taken quite a few bottles of the stuff to the pace in homebush on hill road. Didn't charge me for it although they will weigh you on the way in and on the weigh out (believe it or not some fools actually try to dig stuff out of the pit - some guy died there about 15 years ago).

I can either take it to work (local council depot), or to any of the Waste and Recycling places around Geelong.

LOL, Cockburn WA.

Just curious, can you elaborate on what you mean about digging stuff out of the pit please?

What is in the pit that is so valuable? Is this the pit where the old oil is poured into?

As for uses of second hand oil. My parents stock pile it and use it to paint the wooden fence posts before they get put into the ground.

Kind of a "Poor Mans Creosote"

What I mean is there is a giant pit that peoples rubbish gets thrown into. This then periodically gets compacted and then goes down a hopper and into a waiting truck, which then carts it off to the Menai tip. Essentially, the whole waste transfer station is elevated about two stories to allow for the trucks to park underneath.
What I meant is that someone obviously saw something of value in the pit and decided to go after it. They then couldn't climb back out and somehow managed to get crushed in the compacting operation and later died in the hospital.
As for the oil, you take it there in containers and leave the containers there. You don't have to handle the oil at all.
