They choke power. They are designed to run after the filter so if it explodes it has nothing stopping it. Waste of time and money

I'm sure I saw an EF/EL XR8 with an electric supercharger at SA AFD 2006? Then again maybe it was the adelaide tap water causing me to hallucinate.

Adelaide tap water: too thick to drink, too thin to plow! (hehehe, too thin to plow, just like Angelina Jolie at the moment)

There are some interesting ones available that may actually work. eg

Quote:
Quite unlike anything else on the market, the ESC-400 uses an Eaton twin-rotor core that's driven by three custom wound electric motors. All three motors - totalling 18 horsepower - are mounted on a CNC 60-16 T6 aluminium billet bracket. Interestingly, the ESC-400 has its own independent power source - four high-capacity 12V batteries, which are designed for very fast recharge.

I thought a dictum of life was there were no new questions just new answers and this is a subject where the technology may be changing and thus the answers changing as well.

A Google search suggests the Thomas Knight ESC one does work; well there a certainly enough people saying it is the only one that does. The hair dryer types won't work but the Thomas Knight one is something more than that and appears to have potential.

Not having a go at the original poster, but this is the nineth time a thread has been brought up on the topic:

http://www.fordforums.com.au/showthread.php?t=88094
http://www.fordforums.com.au/showthread.php?t=86331
http://www.fordforums.com.au/showthread.php?t=63048

http://www.fordforums.com.au/showthread.php?t=13756
http://www.fordforums.com.au/showthread.php?t=6445

The irony is this may mean that the electric supercharger threads are probably in the top 10 subjects of threads on AFF, sharing the pestigious title along with other equally important threads such as but not limited to the Stripes on a non-GT thread, Camry drivers suck, v8 vs xr6t, V10 GTHO, ford marketing sucks and wheels mag are biased threads - oh and number 1 would probably be Holden's are Daewoos.

I thought E series failed cylinder head gaskets would (unfortunately) be right up there leading the top 10.

So do people here think the Tom Kinight thing works or is it another fraud? I'm not about to shell out my dollars on one either way.

An interesting read there aussieblue i don't pretend to know the first thing about all that stuff but it does sound promising i spose i to wouldn't buy one but if he can prove one day it works it might be viable like he said with a higher voltage output from newer cars maybe.

i remember seeing a youtube video of some guys trying that. they hooked up a blower vac to the intake and done dyno runs with and without. there was noticeable gains. pity its hard to cram under the bonnet lol

If you want to buy a new engine then buy 1 and see what happens.

And here I was thinking we were just discussing the Turbo Zet - 2 PC cooling fans and lot of hype.

Can't get away from the fact that the thousands of litres of air needed to be moved by these electrical devices is the biggest hurdle they have to overcome.

Having read through the two links there is a lot of development going on here and some of it actually seems to based on some engineering principles and knowledge.

I can see it having an application in hybrids. Imagine that it gets added to the petrol engine as a temporary boost for heavy acceleration?

Electric motor to cruise,
Petrol engine + electric motor for acceleration
Petrol engine + electric supercharger + electric motor for overtaking and dragging off Commydores at the lights

I think an electric supercharger would be cool when or if it becomes better than a traditional supercharger. It would be pretty cool if you could switch it on and off via a red switch, like in mad max :P

at the moment, it looks like totally pointless trap for ricer wannabees.
