Justice was my first, then Puppets, Kill Em All and Ride the Lightning. Black onwards they changed directions and became too generic in my opinion. I still have all their albums/cd's, but if I decide to reminisce on them, I go straight to the older stuff and dont even dust off the new. I did enjoy S&M, re-living the oldies with a twist...

Justice for me.
Lightning, Puppets and Black tie for 2nd. My Fav songs are 1. One 2. Fade to Black 3. Orion 4. Nothing Else Matters Beyond this, i rate equally; Horsemen, Anesthesia, Seek, Ride, Bells, Death, Ktulu, Battery, Puppets, Sanitarium, Damage, Blackened, Justice, To Live is to Die, Sandman, Sad, Unforgiven, Roam, Friend of Misery, Hero, Fuel, Memory, Unforgiven 2, Turn the Page, Whiskey. Althought St. Anger got me really onto Metallica, Their early work has shown how good they really are, thus im not such a fan of their newer stuff.

the black album is okay, but anyone that knows metallica for what they used to be will know that this album was the point at which they changed their sound heavily to a more mainstream easy listening type of sound.
anything after that can be thrown in the garbage as far as i'm concerned, especially that ridiculous s an m business. talk about selling out. they even cut their hair off! i'd rather die quietly. justice for all was their peak i reckon, and the albums before them are also awesome, but the recordings are a bit dodgy, but i guess that goes with the era. anyone love oldschool MEGADETH?

My fav used to be Black. Dont care that its mainstream, I just liked it. Havent heard any of it for ages, so perhaps if I listened to them all again, my opinions would change, who knows?

S&M is truly awesome, I can't get enough of it. I love their instrumental stuff like 'orion' and 'call of ktulu' in their original form, so S&M just builds them up very well. I don't mind 'fuel' from Reload, but I'd choose MOP or RTL over it to listen to any day. I actually like St Anger, but I think it's definately one of their lesser albums...

i voted for master of puppets coz one song on that demands special mention - welcome home sanitarium.
however any of those first four - kill em all, ride the lightning, master, or justice - are by far their best work. |

Funnily enough, just after I posted, I remembered the hysteria surrounding enter sadman when I was a tad younger. I actually remember liking it!
Today while pottering around on the car, the words kept going through my mind! Darn it all! LOL! GK

if their new album is anything like st. anger I would not even bother. The biggest tragedy of Metallica is that if they had finished with the black album they probably would be reguarded as the greatest heavy metal bands of all time.
Now they are just the next rolling stones, hopefully this album is brilliant and they finish with at least a bit of dignity left. |

Justice by a mile, every song is a winner but have a big soft spot for lightning as Ride the Lightning would probably be my favorite Metallica song.
Black album was the start of the Bob Rock era, lets get a pop guy in to screw up our raw sound. Great for sales as their popularity skyrocketed but they lost that edge and out came the cookie cutter songs, lost interest in them shortly after. |

justice for me. as a huge and genuine metallica fan anyway. i think this was when they peaked as a band with metal riffs, melodies and lyrics before they sold out and made the "black album".
people who rate the black album as the best are metalli-noobs, and need to listen to everything they released. not just the most commercial one that half good. |

ive read on metlli-forums that the new talli album, which they started recording on april 12 will be very much like the older 80's music. I seriously doubt it would be anything like st.anger. although it was very popular and everyone has a copy of it. i think everyone knows that the music itself is just gay.
i think they guys of metallica also know that too. they've sorted all they're litlle issues out now, they're a band again. they're not angry n stuff now all the time. they're touring europe as we speak, and they;re goin great! However, i think this will be their final album |
