While it's a "push" not to hoon or street race, it coul potionally leave many young people struggling finacially having to pay the car off but not having to drive.
If they are caught, they should not be allowed to drive the car and sell it, pay back there loan, and buy another car within certain restrictions, no fancy big 6s or V8s, and I know what your all 'going' to say that it doesn't matter what they drive they can still "speed" or "hoon" but if they choose to, then they deserve to then have tougher penitlies. Just tougher penitiles for "repeat" offenders, not people that go 5-10km over the limit, those caught 40+ over? |

I don’t remember people trying to mimic Max Rockananski when Mad Max was released, although some may have. I certainly don’t advocate giving the Australian police any more power by introducing more draconian rules, as I believe that they already have enough and we certainly don’t have as many of the problems that they have over there in LA. I find it hard to understand how the minds of some of these people work as I’m not in the habit preforming burnouts or trying to reach the outer limits of my car’s performance in suburban / populated areas. I honestly believe that a lot more younger people are stupider these days when it comes to their on road behaviour, and because there are more of them around and powerful cars are a lot cheaper, the media takes full advantage of this. When I was younger, we still did all of the usual stuff, however, we generally didn’t do the stupid things that people are getting nailed for in suburban areas. We wouldn’t have the hoon laws in Victoria if these boneheads that like to show off to hundreds of people in Noble Park drove their sh*tboxes an hour and a half up the road and didn’t bother the general public. Hopefully we won’t see people’s cars being crushed in Victoria, however, with Bracks running the state, I wouldn’t rule anything out. It’s the tolerance levels that have to be changed before many people will respect the laws here. They still have the death penalty in California, so perhaps Bracks could “look into that” for Victoria as well.

This is Just ridiculous what they are doing is just causing more trouble instead just license suspension or something like that the resort to this. All this is gonna do is insight violence and revenge and commit deeper criminal acts.
Even the normal guy is gonna do something bad when hes life gets smashed or crushed. But this is actually about street racers those are people who hoon regularly so this doesn't come into affect of any of the other rules. So the normal bloke that just gives a little extra throttle will still just get a speeding ticket. So if your a street racer be worried if not don't let this bother you!. America is a police state and most of the laws seem to mover globally so don't expect it too take long before this is in full effect world wide. The world is getting more like a jail everyday aint it ?

The finance companies won't be enjoying this. Hard to imagine that it's even legal for the police to crush a car that a finance company has legal title over..

would it be better having system like the following:
1st Offence- Fine and/or suspension of license 2nd Offence- Impound the car for a certain amount of time. 3rd Offence- Car crushed Or the judge may rule a harsher sentence in some circumstances. The Police shouldnt have the ability, it should all be up to a judge.

I was watching a thing on Discovery Channel about street racers and they mentioned this. The coppers there hand out "tickets" but they aren't normal tickets. They are free entry into the legal drag nights, and the cops also get involved with some very quick race cars of their own.
Whilst they are crushing cars, and also said it's tough for the kids who have to keep paying the car off, they are genuinely doing something to help them too. |
