My wife got in her car this morning and left for work. 5 min later she was home again complaining her car wasn't changing gears properly. I got in and as she said it was slipping really bad. I thought the worst. In the end it was only the hose of the tranny cooler had come off. Other than the obvious loose hose clamp is there any other reason why this would blow the hose of the oil cooler. And can anyone tell me how much oil these things hold as i think by the look of the oil slick up the road that is is going to be pretty much empty

Dry fill capacity is 10 litres, I hope it hasn't burnt out? Does it smell?

If it was only 100m then I don't think you will have lost the lot. Well the hose would be under pressure, so if the clamp was loose that would explain it coming off, if that's not the case the only other logical fault I could think of is a blocked trans cooler

The auto is under that much pressure ... it'll dump all the fluid in about 1 minute. (not even)
But when the pressure is that low ... it will eventually not select a gear at all. Is it an aftermarket cooler with rubber hosing and clamp ... or is it the factory cooler in the radiator ... i am presuming aftermarket cooler. The little clamps can eventually loosen a little and seep ... by the sounds of it though the end of the hose is cracked or something. Had a similar issue with the Brother-in-law's VR Commodore ... he ended up with no drive at all. Found the hose has perished ... I just got another hose and clamp ... filled the auto back up and all was good. Hoping that is all with yours.

Thanks guys. Yeah it is after market with the rubber hose and the fiddly little hose clamps. There is oil every were under the bonnet and in the wheel archs so i think i lost all of it. It will select drive but only at about 3000rpm then cuts out again. So yeah pretty much no drive at all. Im just glad she didnt drive any further. Im not paying another 2000 on a gearbox for it the cars done over 300,000 km so it would be lucky to be worth 2500. Other than this it has never missed a beat. Hopefuly it will be as easy as filling it back up. Not that filling it up is that easy on the AU's. Then theres the cleaning up all the oil!! To top it of now she has to drive my XR8 to work. I dont know whats worse!!

Are well after finding out that it was just the hose that came of i put it back on and filled the gearbox up. Turned out it only lost 5 litres of oil. And it was fine again. runs sweet it even does 2nd gear chirps again thanks to a bit of a service and some new oil. The gearbox feels new again. Thanks for all the help.

Good to hear all it needed was a service and new fluid.
