Left Sydney bound for Cowra nice and early to beat the traffic.
Just past Katoomba, 7am and there is traffic! Crawling along at 30km/h.... [IMG]  [/IMG] Hmmm now I know what the hold up is, someone has left their HOUSE parked on the road?!?  : [IMG]  [/IMG] Ok it's actually on a trailer. Heavy vehicle checking station aproaching ........ This thing is at least 2 and a half cars wide! [IMG]  [/IMG]Ok We start to crawl now. Wonder how hard it must be to drive this rig?? [IMG]  [/IMG]Woops! Missed the heavy vehicle exit!  : [IMG]  [/IMG]Ok, time to pull over to sort out the mess. [IMG]  [/IMG] The trailer is so wide it has training wheels! [IMG]  [/IMG]Yikes.... I wonder if was going to continue the trip down Victoria Pass??? Steep and Icy are not ideal conditions even for a regular truck I would think... Ok back on the open road. Haaa the yellow Festiva looks like Shrek with no neck.... [IMG]  [/IMG] |

See that sort of thing all the time out here in Moree, its even worse during either of the harvest seasons, you come round a corner in a 3 tonne Landcrusier at a 110km/h and there smack bang in the middle of the road with no rear escort is a cotton-picker or header.
At the moment there are a lot of mining dump truck bodies coming through town, 1 escort 1km up the road warning truckies then another two escorts, then a HWP car, then the load, then a rear escort. Nathan

I had the house taken from my block when I built the house i live in now built, worst experance of my life, the cow boy that did the job took forever, I ended up threataning leagal action as he hadent moved the house after he cut it for 8 weeks and I was paying penaltys to the builder so the smart ar$e moved it out to the nature strip (I have a big nature strip and it was technicaly off my property) 6 weeks later (total 14) the house made its way to the southern highlands, good blody ridens, if I ever do somthing like this again I dont care how good the house is it will be demolished.

As inconvenient it may be to drivers, this the only possible way of transporting heavy/wideloads between places. And in most cases they do this in non peak hour times to not inconvenient the majority.
We should just deal with it. |

When was that? Do you remember as i'm curious as to how far one of these gets in x hours etc.
Was early Thursday morning in these pics.  But still just amazing to say the least. Anyone who does the trip from Emu Plains over the great divide to Lithgow knows the roads are shite, with steep inclines and decents and 1 lane each way at times.... Would be a very slow and nerve racking trip.... |

The funniest thing I have ever seen like that was between Goodwood and Bundaberg near the Elliot river crossing. Two idiots in cutters were racing and could not slow down in time for the corner and they both fell over onto their sides. Result; two bent cutters and two now unemployed farmhands up on charges.
For those who do not live in cane country, a cutter is a tall skinny povvo version of a harvester. They are often on the roads during the season and are often driven with a "stuff all other road users" attitude by some of the hyper-intelligent pan-dimensional beings that are employed at that time. Yet another time when I did not have a camera :( |

wait til ya see some of the loads we get here in the west where they have 3 trucks at front pulling a load and 2 at rear pushing getting the rail engines up north

Hehe up here in Brisbane recently some tools moving a house thought they'd put it up on the truck etc but then realised they couldn't fit it through the top of the street... so they left it there for a few days blocking an entire street at the top of a hill.

Quality looking escort vehicle there! Speak to most guys who do escorts on a regular/full time basis and they'll tell you they have been been asking the RTA to introduce some kind of licensing system for Escorts to get rid of the cowboys for years. Anyone with a flashing light and appropriate signage can do an escort. But you'd want to know what your doing before you have a go. The fines for escorts are horrendous!

you might have another one of those on its way up? seen a big job go through Miriam Vale here about 3pm today heading north. it was a big transformer on a set up like that only bigger with 4 primemovers pulling at the front and a steer cabin and another primemover at the back. was heading up the Bruce Highway through town past our work depot. i didnt have time to get my camera seeing as i work for Ergon there were a few comments about trying to hang that tranny on a pole :togo:

up the newell hwy on my way to qld and back each time there a lot of over sized rigs, i recalled two incidents .. 1 where escort at front and rear .. escorting a truck and its' (mining truck?) and another one that was being escorted by cop car/s which was the the front of a mining truck.. whatever the thing they pick stuff up with :P(front loader)
but they will generally indicate with their indicators to tell you its' safe to pass, which helps as i'm impatient and get annoyed at crawling speeds..
