G'day guys,
Has anyone had any experience freight cars from the states ? Any idea of costs ? I'm looking at a '67 mustang and a '71 mercury cougar. Cheers |

ive heard around the $5000 mark for shipping + taxes and all other fees.

I have shipped a car a couple of times using a car carrier and there were no problems. Transatlantic it was about $1,000. Definitely cheaper than a container. You can contact the shipping lines directly - one of them is Wallenius Wilhelmsen. If you go through a middleman they just double the prices.

I import big machines in containers and wouldnt use any one other than cargo care http://www.cargocare.com.au/
These guys are great there price is bang on competitive and they keep me informed every step I get weekly updates form the time the vessel has been booked until my containers are delivered they handel customs clearances shipment servaying the lot

Yeah, from talking to my auction people when i was over there, they said if its driveable, then drive on/drive off is far cheaper then a container, which makes perfect sense when you look at the size difference ;). Just a shame i didn't have the 13k for the cuda he tried to sell me, lol.
Another way is to get a couple of people to chip in and get a container and fill it with other stuff as well as a car. My friends dad used to go over with 2 other guys, and they would fill it up with all sorts of goodies every year  Especially good if its going to need parts anyway.

I brought a Corvette across in 1994 in a refeer container thats 20ft with 2 feet of refrigerater inside on a dierct route from Long Beach LA to Melboune it cost $1200 for the container & I also loaded other items in the container plus, $400 transport costs over there $300 in Melb $200 quarantine plus duty on car & items plus other costs of broker & etc. The car cost $6300 US by the time I had it under the car port it cost me close to $14 grand AUS LHD.
