Default Springs and Things

Just wondering, I was thinking of putting new suspension under my Series 2 Fairmont Ghia which currently has IRS and 'Tickford Suspension'. This setup is fine for the moment, but I want something that will handle better. Just to be more stable through corners (not track corners, but on-ramp-to-the-freeway corners).

Currently the front sits about 10mm lower (?Due to the 'Tickford suspension), and the back sits at standard height (Again, ?IRS). If in the process of getting new suspension etc, they were to level out, I will not be unhappy.

So, what I am after here is what are other people running under their cars in terms of shockers, springs, sway-bars, or strut braces (although I am yet to find one that will fit the front of an AU b/c of the radiator water reservoir). And what prices and where around Melbourne will sell and fit them (preferably Western Suburbs). I could maybe tackle fitting them myself (I have a basic knowledge and maybe access to a hoist), but if fitting isn't extortion, I'm happy for that too.

Most popular upgrade is to go superlows (will drop around 15mm from XR/Tickford height. With the ghia, you may need to get adjustable camber kit for the rear - XRs had them standard on the IRS, but the Ghia didn't.

Having said that, lowering the car does not actually always result in better handling. Upgraded sway bars would, as would fitting nolathane bushes to the torsion controlling bits, like swaybar chassis mounts etc. The AU2s (and BAs etc) have a non-bush swaybar link, but I believe that nolathane do a direct replacement for the dual pivot link arm, but it's around $100. AU1 have a normal old style link which works well with nolathane/superpro bushes (at around $20).

In terms of shocks - if you really want quality, go for Koni or Bilstein or something like that - expensive, but well worth it.

Have you tried doing a search on "shocks" or "suspension" or "springs"? There has to be at least 30 threads covering this already.

i just got super lows put on my car today ... i'll put a pic up when i take 1 tomorrow ... it will adjust you're hight and you're Fairmont will look tuff ... you will also need a camber kit as JC said ...

if you want handeling, change shocks over and put in/upgrade sway bars, this will give you 20-20 traction!

all up, depending who you go through; you're looking at about $800-$900, or just $350 for SL + $150 for a camber kit! sway bars will set you back about $200-$500
