Well as the title reads, im just wondering if anyone has fitted the "factory optional" sat nav gps at a later date. Wanting to know if there were any dramas with wiring, dash etc etc, i know they are expensive and aftermarket units are probably better but i would like to keep my fairmont as close to factory form as possible but still having it optioned.

012 fitted it to his Te50, IIRC. Might be worth a PM (though haven't seen him on the forums for a while). T3man may also have fitted it.
Best option is just to use an aftermarket one, and mount the bracket for it to the mobile phone presenter arm that lives in the centre console (it was an option from Ford, so you may need to buy one). This way you can use a cheaper unit than the Ford one, it has newer and better technology, is fully portable, and the only screw holes are in the optional mobile presenter, and you get power from Cigarette lighter/power socket.

ford also have a kit for satnav the unit is designed to fit the ashtray slot and it is plug in

How much would a factory setup cost ?? NavMan GPS are about the $500 mark.
