Default I6 Fuel Economy...

So I know its all been asked and said before

I'm doing 90% highway kays and about the best I can manage over a few hundred km's is about 11L/100 this seems too high to me... I6 Auto Ute

Things to check?

Oxy Sensor
Cat

Anything else?

What will improve economy? Free up the intake?

I don't want to spend stupid money on this endeavor but it really doesn't feel like its running as freely as it should which is giving me the :togo:

That's about right. Anywhere from 9 to 11 on the highway is normal - anything lower than 9 is just freaky, and anything above 11 is a bit rich, but not too bad. Over 12 is worth looking at.

If it's struggling at all through the rev range, prime suspect would be the cat.

Well if you put the foot down it goes...

But just sorta seems to struggle to me unless you put the foot down

9 to 11 is normal? ! Yet they claim 8L/100?

By 90% highways kays to you mean on a 100 km/h freeway?

I get 7 and 8 all the time according to my trip computer on such roads. AU II VCT 6.

Are you using a real world calculation method?

I drive 28km to work start car drive 1minute to freeway drive down freeway for 10mins stop at 2 sets of lights then do 80/100 the rest of the way no stops do have to slow a few times for roundabouts though

I'm counting those 2 stops at traffic lights and starting the car up from cold as 10%

I realize starting the car up and it will use more fuel while its warming up etc... But i think 90% is a fair figure more than fair infact...

The real world method I'm using it to fill the tank all the way to the brim and drive for a few hundred km and then fill the tank to the brim again to get a pretty exact I think method of measuring the fuel used...

After this tank I'll load up the diag screen again and see what it does use on the highway

My DTE and distance travelled never total less than 730 combined. Often they total 800-880 combined. This is true, all the way down to the red fuel light coming on, and is consistent from one tank to the next.
I don't drive like a grandpa, and it does get a good kick in the guts from time to time.
My trip to work is from Portarlington Vic to Geelong Vic, which is about 45km (guessing) with 75% of it being 100km/h limits.

If you do an amount of driving at between 80 - 89 km/h then that might explain it.

In my car, I consider this the bad zone for fuel economy because the engine's doing 1,900 - 2,000 revs in 4th gear before lockup at 90 (and resulting lower revs). I think it's because of my hi-stall torque converter but I don't remember if it was the same before when it had the factory one.

The VY I used to have doing similar trips to this would do 9L/100 give or take, you could see a big difference doing a trip like this in the fuel economy

Yet I'm babying the thing around driving like an absolute grandpa and it gives back 11L/100 ? I thought the Falcon's were supposed to be better on fuel

If I even accelerate to 60 too quick I can feel the fuel gauge going down

I know I am in the wrong car bracket but, I drive hard and get 11.4 in city and 8.8 on highway.....just stirring the pot.

Approx 30Ltrs of LPG and Approx 30Ltrs of ULP from Batemans bay to Bathurst in 6hours... thats with plenty of breaks and some rather heavy footed spots :P That is also driving through the Blue Mountains and towards Canberra. I only have an AU Forte' I 4ltr Auto Duel Fuel and NO Cruise Control.

Yeap that is exactly what I'd expect! I managed to quite easily get it over 13/100 the other week driving around mainly locally and it wasn't even particularly up it... Isn't the BA supposed to be worse on fuel than the AU?

I might suggest you reset your ECU by disconnecting the battery terminals for at least 45 minutes (or something you can do overnight). See how that goes as well.

My bog stock tranny and converter can lock up below 80. The lock-up point seems to vary depending on throttle position too. Get up it & the converter stays unlocked longer.
