There's a turbo 1.4 rumoured to appear in the future with around 125-140 kw.

I know for a fact there will be no Fiesta ST/XR4 turbo because :-

1. The current model Fiesta is the last generation Fiesta before Ford discontinues it.
2. With pre-jurassic motoring mentality people have atm, FPV won't engineer a Fiesta XR4 Turbo.

EDIT :- but yes, as Photn said... the next generation Ford supermini will use this 1.6l Duratec Turbo as shown here..

My question for you,is why would ford kill off a model name they have just established, and one that has a fairly good preconception in the marketplace?.Just look at the mazda 2,new one very diffrent aesthetically, and mazda has a diffrent target market for the car now,but its still called mazda 2,because it would be a waste of time and money establishing the model name in the first place. For example the fiesta/focus add, would be arguably a waste

What you just said makes no sense. The recent Verve concept is the next gen Fiesta. And FPV don't engineer the Fiesta XR4 at all, its a Ford Team RS project from Europe. There have already been reports saying the next gen Fiesta ST/XR4 will be turbo.

Ford havn't just established the Fiesta name. Its been around from 1976. Havn't said that it has NOT been confirmed that the Fiesta name will be dropped.

I'm aware that FPV has nothing to do with the XR4. What I'm saying was... team RS will not do any major updates on the Mk.6.5 Fiestas since it's getting replaced by the next generation supermini very soon. Therefore it'll be up to FPV to play around with the XR4 if Ford Australia wants XR4 Turbo. But again, is that project viable? Highly doubt so.

I meant in Australia obviously, the mini prior to the fiesta was the KIA made festiva.Still where is the answer to my question Ives ?,why would they drop it?,intrested to know why you think they would?.Maybe they will i dont know, but i doubt it.

The Fiesta is still going to be imported from Europe, so we'll get whatever they get. We're talking about the next generation here, the original post said possible turbo IN THE FUTURE. No one said anything about the current XR4.

HA! that was fun.

Yes, a 1.6l Duratec Turbo is on the card. 170BHP (around 125kW?). Now if Ford can get the whole car to weigh 1000kg max (ala Mazda 2).. that'd be really good.

I don't think they'd drop the Fiesta name. Hasn't it been around for a while now in Europe? I think it's just changing the platform for the next Fiesta.

Edit - Anyone seen the new Mazda 2 commercial? I like the look! The front looks very stylish.

it'll be interesting to see how much they'll be able to get out of the 1.6 turbo if they do it... The big advantage will be some of the torque gained as well. The new golf GT 1.4 TSI (supercharged & turbocharged) gets 125kw i think, and the Polo gti about 110 kw out of the 1.8 turbocharged. And i think there might mbe a new addition to the FIAT Punto family with a 1.4 turbocharged engine. Prob only in Europe though.

i know it's just not going to happen but it'd be great to see AU get down with our gas reserves and develop some great engines that'd perform and run nice and cheap... gas research has been around for ages...

(sorry to go a little off track)

I think another reason, could be with P-platers not being able to by turbo's etc the xr4 is one of the only hot hatches that a P-plate can buy.Wether or not they have that kind of money is another story but still the car is a hit with P-platers.

It'll be interesting in the coming years to see if anyone in Oz will bolt a snail onto the XR4/ST. The XR5T engine would go straight in the Fez's engine bay wouldnt it?

not quite as easily. would require heaps of engine bay work to snuggle it it. it has an extra cylinder so im not too sure if it may be too wide. Not saying it couldnt be done, after all they fit a V8 into a focus, but it would require work. and as they say anything is possible, just depends on how much $$$$$$$$$ you have.

Probably just easier to turbocharge the Fez's engine instead then. Hmmmm....
