Patience is the key here, you dont have to squeeze the crap out of the petrol pump to fill up your car, just nice and gentle...

It's just a matter of altering the position of the nozzle in the filler tube.. Turn it on the side, on an agle or upside down. You'll eventually find a way that works... Try choking the lever a little less too. ;)

I've noticed the same thing, it only happens on a few bowsers here and there and they never happen to be the premium ones

my dad(worked in a few servos) was telling me it is due to a pressure sensor fault in the pump it self..
goes a bit too sensitive and so thinks your tanks full when it isnt .. but of course nobody tells the servo attendant so they dont know its happening 1 of the 5 bowsers at a caltex near my house does it.. the rest work perfect(on regular unleaded anyway)

Well the slow filling question is answered, but I'm still a bit concerned about the nozzle not fitting.......

as already said it has alot to do with the pump itself, but also could be one of 2 others':
1.Your Tank VENT could be semi-blocked 2. If your tank is really low and its a HOT day your tank will be full of vapours, youll noticed when you take you cap off theres a "air rushing sound", thats the vapours getting out. when that happens i normally leave it for 30secs or so and then just take it easy with the nozzle for the first 10-15lts and then you should be ok. :

sounds like a blocked fuel tank breather causing an excess back pressure in the filler neck when filling which triggers the nozzle thinking that the tank is full

Mine had the same problem filling at all pumps. It started off doing it only only a few but got worse over time. The problem is with a little flap that Ford have fitted to the filler socket. It breaks off after a few years and catches in the filler tube, then the filling problem starts as the petrol back pressures trying to get past it. I used a piece of coat hanger wire with the end tightly bent over to hook the flap and then pull it up to the top of the filler socket. Onse you can see the flap, I used a pair of needle nose pliers (long nose should do it ok) and removed the flap. The car now fills to full without cutting off the bowser at all.
