Default Found out why my cat install was cheap!

Had a 2.5" Magnaflow cat installed a few months back, for I think $200.

Had a peak under recently, and worked out why the install was cheap!

The damn thing is leaking at the flange, and sounds like a demented tractor, and what you can't see in the pic, is where he's attempted to weld the bolt for whatever reason. Mind you, I went back twice complaining of the exhaust leak, and both times he put it up on a hoist, and told me that's what extractors, cat & exhaust sounds like on these things!

Looks like he's simply used a piece of my old cat pipe and flange - when new 2.5" pipe and a flange would've been like $10 in parts - had he asked, would've been more than happy to pay extra.

BTW, reckon my trans is leaking?!!!

I'm gonna take it to another place and at least get the pipe diameter matched to the rest of the system. Probably won't make a difference though at least the leak will be gone!

That looks like ar..!

I reckon I could do a better job at welding and yes I do believe there may be a very slight leakage issue with your trans.

i had a 2.5" magnaflo fitted a few weeks ago for less than $200 that included matching the short pipe to my sysstem not leaving the 2.25" pipe and the job looks professional. you should report him to who ever their controling body is in your state. dodgy mechanics like him need to be driven out of business

You think that's bad, I'll try and get a pic of the tip he tacked on the back. Had to take it back twice just to get it welded all the way around! Has a big glob of weld just hanging off the bottom too, which I just haven't had a chance to file down.

Now that is a cr@p job. I think the first time he has ever welded was when he did your vehicle !

Nope.... it was the lates 40's owner of the business who did it, I was there when he did it the first time, but didn't even think to inspect his work.
