Trying to tune carby idle speed and idle mixture
motor runs ok but isnt running as good in the heat especially during idle (stutters occasionally) also is hard to start when warm what i have done; - new sparks - new ignition coils - used carby cleaner - tuned idle mixture screw and idle speed screw idle mixture screw is running at 3 1/2 turns out at the moment, from i have read this a bit too rich i believe, but when i was setting it any leaner it would lead to a rough running idle. |

I had a similar problem while mucking around with my carb.
If you haven't put a new kit into the carbie in a long while, do so. I picked one up for around $60 or $70 I think, from a carbie specialists in Eastlakes (I think), in Sydney, there. It was a Fuel Miser SWE-880X Specialist Repair Kit, if you want the exact name. The other thing to look out for is the spaghetti that is the emission control system. Some joker had a go at mucking about with mine, and if you get the hoses jumbled and plugged into the wrong part, it can play absolute hell with your car. My experience was that the engine died while idling, and shuddered back- and- forward unless I was accellerating or decellerating; unless I sat at the lights with the clutch partially engaged while revving the bejesus out of the engine, it would die on me and I had no confidence it would start again. Even worse, I was on my L's at the time! In the end, it was one hose that I'd missed while refitting the carbie that caused all the problems. Check your service and repair manual to make sure the hoses are all leading to where they're supposed to go. The other possibility is your choke's stuffed, may explain the difficulty in warm starts. |

haven't modified anything physically ( like the emission cables etc ) tried to adjust idle speed, mixture and to fix the stuttering prob and warm starting issues. this only occurs when its warm and even then not always....
replicated the problem at home a few weeks ago and manged to really reduce the stuttering after richening the mixture a little more but hasn't gotten rid of the problem completely. pazuzu? what does the repair kit change, is it an easy job or does it involve also of removal and dismantling also checked choke operation and when the car is warmed up according to the manual they should point straight down which is what they do. thanks for help guys |

the weather is heating up and the starting is getting harder and harder so if anyone knows of a ok mechanic or someone in the parramatta area of sydney i would appreciate it as im pretty sure it is the carburettor as in winter the starting issues are pretty much gone.
thanks |
