Default au no power issues

have a au that has a miss when you free rev it just off idle and when you drive it it has no power like retarded timing. have checked everything fuel pressure swaped lots of electronic from one au to another with no luck i am about to send pcm to be checked has anyone come accro0ss this ? any ideas much appreciated?? :

sounds like you cat converter could have collapsed blocking the exaust... mine did this in my XR8

hook it up to a scan tool that will spit trouble codes out and steer you straight ford dealers and some mechanics have them

drop the exaust of just after the cat and shine a torch up it... then start the car and give it a rev and see if bits of your cat come out with it.

My cam pos sensor failed. It stuffed the injector pulses above 3000rpm and sounded/felt like a miss. Under 3000 it was as good as gold.

Do the basics first. Check your cat, plugs, leads, air & fuel filters. I found out only last month how much difference replacing a collapsed cat makes. As au3xr6 said, get a scan tool put on it to check for DTC's (diagnostic trouble codes). You should be able to get this done under $75.

I've got the same problem...
Just picked up a 2000 AU2 Fairmont Ghia (duel fuel) & VCT, it was serviced just b4 i picked it up but prob only oil+filter and it still feels pretty doughy. Put a new air filter and some injector cleaner in it last night but no difference yet. Cruise along and step on it and it misses & hesitates for a couple of seconds b4 picking up.
Did a hand timed 0-100 for a 11sec result...too slow for the car. Does have some sort of exhaust/extractors on it but unsure at the mo.
Don't know the history of the car but it looks like it's had a pretty easy life with 173k's.
I'll have a look at the cat etc over the weekend and report back.

Howsit Reece

Have some problems with my own AUII at the moment, lots of pinging and so on, but after many tests started to replace electronic parts aswell. Started with the T-MAP sensor and although it did not give any error codes before, the result is very good. Suffered also from a slight miss above idle speed, but that’s gone. Throttle response is a lot better too. Idle is constant, but is still pinging under a light throttle now and then. After replacing the knock sensor, with no better result, the only thing that can be wrong now is somewhere in the wiring or the PMC. Going to take it apart this weekend.
I’m busy over 6 month with this now and getting also Pi**ed off with it. But do yourself a favour and check the wiring. Not just the connectors but also resistance or voltage. Fixed error codes that came up by just checking and fixing the wire loom.

I have also a power problem in my AUII, I take of from a dead stop and she doesnt go anywhere, have done all the basics, oil, oil filter, scan tool (no errors), plugs, leads, when cruising along at what ever speed and i put my boot into it it doesnt always change down gears and when it does it take a few seconds or a release then press on the throttle again, but with all that said once it gets upto about 3500 - 4000 rpm she goes hard......till the gear change then back to normal, i have checked the cat as much as i can, the car has done a little over 120,000 ks, i bought it when it had 107,000 on it, could it be the transmission? service on tranny help maybe?

Hey Shane.
My mate had this with his Ser 1 Fairmont. His turned out to be the gearbox. Because his Mrs at the time was manual shifting down gears instead of brakes (like it was a manual). In the end it shattered 2nd gear. still drove and went hard down low but sometimes wouldnt change gears and sometimes it would. I cant remember but i think his came up with an error not 100% sure though

Replaced the plugs and leads over the weekend but it hasn't really done much.

I noticed that the guy who had it before me (still a member on here I think?) had put some extractors and a pipe on the car. The only thing is that he's used silastic of some sort on the exhaust manifold.
Silastic (Anything with silicon in it) and Oxygen Sensors don't go together, so that's my next port of call.
Also spoke to the guys at KPM about the whole edit thing to fix the power/ poor economy thing and they'll have a look at it on Monday just after I get the cat etc looked at by the guys at Exhaust Technology right next door.

Had the exhaust looked at the other day. Turns out that there was only a 2" system from the standard cat and a set of extractors (Unknown brand).
The cat was ok but not brilliant and the muffler (std) was starting to break up a bit.

A new hi-flow (MetalCat) 2.5" Cat was fitted along with a Redback 2.5 system. There was an immediate improvement in the throttle response along with an increase in fuel economy.

From 21lt/100k to 17lt/100k, not great figures but the guy who had it before me used gas too much without switching over to petrol to clean things up a bit.

The exhaust guys seem to think that the silastic issue isn't that big of a deal, but I'm still not 100% convinced. As the car has a "Sapphire Blue" warranty of 3yrs and unlimited k's I wont replace the oxy sensor out of my own pocket. I'll drive around for another 2 more tanks of petrol and see if that fixes the power/economy issues, if there's no improvement I'll be taking it in to get the oxy sensor and TMAP looked at.

my ute au3 was doing the same use to cut power to the engine when you stomped the gas (like a speed limiter) done it iderling an crusing had a scan and fuel system checked that was all good than swap the T_MAP TPS and IAC an put in another wiring loom that fixed the problem

Was that a dashboard or engine loom? How long did it take to do? If engine loom it looks the sort of job that's easier with the engine out...

engine loom took bout 2 hours to take off the old engine an transfer across. you have to take the injectors an rail out to take the T_MAP out.

Default AU No power Issues

Just as an exercise thru reading posts on FordForums, I reset/re-calibrated the ECU using the Battery disconnect method on the weekend.

I was sceptical but it has definately improved things so far...

The fuel economy is up (Was 24lt/100klm Is Now 15.5lt/100klm and falling).
The seat-of-the-pants power meter is also very happy with the increased power.
This only using petrol as I haven't tried it on LPG yet, although I do expect a similar improvement on both fronts.

I'll keep posting as I go...

I cleaned the TPS and then did the battery reset and this fixed a stumble off idle problem
