Hey guys
My car is off the road for about 6 to 9 months in about 3 weeks time so: Im looking at converting my normal Au3 i6 Sedan to straight gas using a GRA or simular system. At the same time im looking to rebuild my current engine and up the comp a fair bit and match that with a head and cam package from cresent motors. I will also be getting a stronger auto with a 3k stally which will take upto 300rwks. My questions are: Should i leave my current petrol gear in place?? What are my options if i want more usable gas space then say 60L i would be happy do get rid of the factory petrol tank?? Where can you buy the most reliable best gas from?? Hoping for 100% propane?? Is a GRA system a good option to take?? Thats all for now. Thanks Jake

if you want straight gas, you need to remove at least the petrol tank, if the tank stays, you will still have a duel fuel vehicle regardless of it being used or not as you still have the potential to carry a second fuel.
IMO you should stay duel fuel incase you have a problem with LPG. having petrol as a backup means you are still able to drive around until the LPG problem is fixed. however, if you did get rid of the petrol tank, im sure if you hunt around local wreakers, they may have an E-gas AU that you can get the tank from and should fit right in with little trouble. I wouldnt worry about the other things as your better off with new components rather then old, but it depends on how much money you want to spend. you would be lucky to find someone that sells 100% propane as an additive is required to produce an odour so humans can detect gas leaks....LPG is odourless and colourless with out this additive. best LPG suppliers are the ones who use AutoGas or UniGas such as Caltex, Matilda, and some other independants. BP have had a contamiation in their gas for a while, but seems to be under control and being fixed. GRA isnt too bad, provided the system is tuned properly. A lot of people like IMPCO due to the fact that you dont have to worry much about it once installed where as complex systems such as GRA and ours require check ups at least once a year to ensure they are running properly, that is, not to rich, and not to lean. my best advice for you though would be to spend the extra money and get SVI (Sequential Vapour Injection) and you will maintain, even improve on power and economy over petrol. for more info, i suggest you check out the LPG section further down the forums. hope this has helped you out. col

I've heard recently from the guy in the Herald Sun Cars Section that the dedicated setup of the E-gas engine has had it's fair share of issues, so much so that he also recommended a VSI setup, so maybe do some research into what problems they're having before going down that route. If your coin wont stretch far enough for a VSI setup, go for an Impco. It's set and forget. I have one so I know. BTW, I have also read (again in the Herald Sun Cars Mag) that some VSI systems are also giving issues. All the best with it. GK

i have had a couple of straight gas cars (the older style)and i prefer it , it keeps things simple, a well set up gas system should give you very little trouble, the only downer`s in my book are should you get caught out in the sticks were gas is not sold but this is pretty rare these days too, or a little bit less range, petrol engines have problems too.
