Default Help Me Ride to Cure Diabetes

G’day everyone!

I'm writing to ask for your support.
Help support the search for a Diabetes cure by supporting me on my 160km ride in the Barossa Valley in South Australia, my aim is to raise $10,000...

I believe that we need to find a cure for the 140,000 Australian children and adults living with type 1 (juvenile) diabetes.

Why should you support me?
• In Australia, there are around 5 new cases of type 1 diabetes diagnosed every day and the incidence is increasing.
• Unlike type 2 diabetes, type 1 has nothing to do with diet or lifestyle and cannot be prevented.
• The long-term complications of the disease can include blindness, heart disease, kidney failure, and even amputation.
• People with type 1 diabetes need up to six insulin injections every day, just to stay alive.
• Insulin is not a cure for type 1 diabetes – currently there is no cure. That's why I am Riding. Your donation will fund vital research, which will one day find a cure for type 1 diabetes.

Visit my personal Ride website to make a donation or for more information:
http://ride.jdrf.org.au/MatthewKenneday/

Thank you for your support.

Matthew Kenneday

P.S. When you donate you will receive a receipt for your tax-deductible donation via email.

The transplant of eyelet cells from pigs into humans' pancreas has has 100% success rate in curing diabetes. The federal government is not really promoting the research or concept. Do a google search . Diabetes should have been a thing of the past.

Intersting, I've had type 1 diabetes for 6 years, Got it completley out of the blue. I've been told countless times there's no reason why I got it, and certainly no hope for a cure.

Werd - I jsut added them up and i think you made a mistake when you did it haha.

Serial Fool - nah no direct deposit option. You can pay with your credit card via the website. Or you can give me the cash directly and i will give you a receipt. Alternatively you can directly deposit the amount into my personal bank account, and i will post you a receipt. But that is an option that you may think dodgy.

Having just driven through parts of the course last night on my way home, I hope you are training hard for it! Nice and hilly in parts!
Unfortunately, I won't be able to come and watch as I'll be playing cricket on the Saturday. Must remember to get out of Tanunda before it starts, or find an alternative way!
Good luck on the ride!

Edit: Just noticed that the course doesn't go up Mengler's Hill. That will make things a little easier for you!

What is it they say about a little bit of knowledge? I don't mean to sound rude, but it's not that simple unfortunately. Oh, and it's islet, not eyelet, in case anyone is going to google it.

Good luck on the ride by the way.

Mattp: Thanks for the clarification. It is unfortunate, but alot of people out there are confused.

Geoff EL4.0: Just replied to your PM!

Ives: I love Family Guy

Sgt Doofey: You must get drunk a lot living in the Barossa.

If anyone is thinking of donating, the deadline is drawing closer, so make sure you get in before its too late!

Thanks guys!

(Note: I am also, mattew, if anyone didn't notice. Regards)

Considering that we also live within a 5 minute walk to 3 pubs, surprisingly not that often!

I hope you get some nice weather as well for the ride. We've had some nice hot days here lately here in Adelaide, and the Barossa. One year with the Tour Down Under, they had to ride in a number of days of 40+ degrees!

Lately it has been hot and still, so we haven't had much wind. Having said that, it can pick up easily enough, it is in the hills after all!
I play cricket for Tanunda and we've had some windy days, but we have also had some still days too out on the field.

Edit: If you want to see how windy it is, go to the Current Observations for SA page on the BOM website: http://www.bom.gov.au/products/IDS60800.shtml
Have a look at the values for Nuriootpa.

You should be able to use Google Earth to Map out your direct route via Satellite - I think it shows the differences in elevation aswell.
