Yeah its illegal in Victoria to have the pod outside the box.
I think (dont hold me to this) but if the engine bay is hot so the pod sucks in hot air (its better to suck in cold air as you prob know) so it is probally not as good as it was in the box and sucking cold air from outside in if you get what i mean.

Slap it in a custom box mate. Thats what most of the aftermarket CAIs are anyway.

Yes ricki lake :P the pod is a great idea but not putting it in a sealed box will soak up some power. Its abit of coin but ive heard nothing but good about G&D airboxes, basically a sealed box with a pod on the inside... The power gains from their systems are quiet substantial.. You had better ask Mel if its ok mate lol.

P.S G&D are site sponsors, do a search here and you'll find out the power gains

It is illegal to have the pod exposed. As daniel_rossy said it is no good if it is exposed as it will only suck hot air into the motor. The factory intake is designed to draw cool air from the outside in. So why on earth would you wanna be sucking in hot air.

I was using an unboxed pod in my old ed for a while. It definantly seemed to improve response and even economy. I know its bad because of hot air but I was able to position it in quite a cool area. Also I understand that its illegal (Fire risk I think) I asked a Tas transport inspector once and he said "Why would you put it in a box" I always intended on making a box but unfortunantly I'm a lazy bastard.

There is a good example of why we dont ask Transport Authorities about mods. They just dont have a clue.

you can even make your own custom box and snorkel which is what i did for my skyline made a cup and plastic moulded self made snorkels to the boddykits air flow spots i even put one of those weird turbines that you can get from autobarn to supposedly make it colder and air flow faster(though i dont believe it to be true think its a gimmick) but sounds cool anyway, it made a huge difference to the power and it helps keep the engine bay cool with the off flow of cold air.

dunno if i explained this so it makes sense but it does work a lot better than if you leave the pod filter in the open. too nuch hot air.
