Go to your local exhaust joint and show them the air box lid and the elbow. They need to copy the plastic piece that is currently their, and replace it with the 3" with a slight kink in it, so as it lines up well. You don't need the entire piece, just the short bit from lid to ribbed elbow, about 300mm long or so. Rick.

Get yourself the XR6T snorkel - you can get one off ebay if you don't have a Ford Service Centre up your way. While you're at it replace the paper filter with a K&N filter. Total cost all up will be approx $150.00.
Then fit extractors - anything Mandrel bent (pacemakers or Jim Mock Motorsport) approx cost of $600.00 Then buy a CAPA Flash tuner - $495.00 with generic tunes which will make a noticable difference to your acceleration. Then save a few more dollars to get yourself a beter cam - approx $600.00 and then get a custom tune (with the trusty flash tuner) at the place who fits the camshaft. Tuning costs vary and being from Perth WA I'm not sure who you would be best to go to in your state. All the above should set you back a total of around $2'000. Your car will feel completely different to what it is now and you will be sticking it to many 5.0L HSV's and even some of the early Gen III Commodes. You may even give some BA XR6 Turbo owners a shock at the Traffic Light Grand Prix.

Thanks for all the info guys I have been out trying to find the necessary and have found a K&N Filter in town for $89 and the tickford snorkel of an XR6 for $45. I will get onto the exhaust joints on Monday to suss out the 3" pipe. Appreciate all the help, will hopefully post some pics tomorrow and let you all know how it goes with the mods

You'll easily see where it shrinks back to around 55mm or so inside the lid. Enlarge it to the size of where it clamps on to the new 3" pipe. Rick.

if it makes you feel any better i wish i never had the accident with my AU, it might have only been an SR or Forte, but it had class. and way better fuel econ than my BF
if your a low budget uni student like me, all i changed on mine was, BA airbox, tickford snorkel (BAxr6t is the same without tickford wings) k+n filter..... BA scuff plates with FORD inserts and any of the AU or B series wheels will fit i cant help with the mechanical side of things never got around to it enjoy the AU while it lasts
