Planning a work trip to Vegas this coming January and the selection is just too great to choose. So much has changed since I was there last.. Hoping someone's been there lately and can suggest which hotel and shows to do while putting in the long work hours???

So does that mean that work is paying??? Bellargio all the way in that case!!!
Seriously, anywhere on the strip will be good. If you are looking at decent accomodation try New York New York, or one of the other 4 star places. If you are paying and want to save a few bucks, some of the places just off the strip will be okay. Do some google searches as I know there are Las Vegas accomodation websites that will give you all the options you need. I was there in June and enjoyed a brief stay at the Bellargio which was awesome!

The wife and I went there in '03 and stayed at New York, New York. Nice casino and the accommodation was quite nice. Just make sure that there isn't any conventions on when you are staying there as it can make the price go up.
In all seriousness, any of the casinos along the strip will be fantastic. It's easy to get around everywhere on the strip as you just walk everywhere. Just remember that Vegas is a city built on gambling, alcohol and prostitution.

My advice, spend less on accomodation and spend the money on other stuff, you can stay at Super 8 on Boulder Hwy, Henderson for about $70 per room per night. which is about a 10-15 min drive from Las Vegas Blvd (the strip). It's pretty easy to get around Vegas.

I've stayed in the Bellargio great place. If the company is paying there is many great casinos on the strip. But if I go with the family for a cheap 4 week driving tour I genarally stay at the Sahara Casino http://www.saharavegas.com/casino/ which is on the strip but towards the Nth great pool, cheap rates but not modern as the other Big Casinos. But a good starting point for hiring cars & doing the great US drive. Check out the Imperial Palace car collection you get the free passes out of the tourist info books Los Angels is a dive. I avoid it only for stopping for immigration before connecting flights. |

Work is paying and a convention is the reason for the junket, Opps, sorry, I meant work trip..
I've looked online at the hotels and it just makes your head spin, hence the reason for some "hands on" advise.. And yes, there is a hooters close by. I've heard the meals are nice too :evilsasmo |

We've stayed at Mandalay Bay which is at the end of the strip near the Airport
It is also part of the Monorail up to NYNY so easy to get around. Awesome island pools and beautiful g everything Bellagio is great but I like Parisian or Venetian which are opposite and look over the Bellagio fountains and basically in the heart of the strip. We flew out to the Grand Canyon and it is freakin extraordinary, picked up in a F350 minibus from Hotel. |

I've stayed at the MGM Grand and the Luxor. I didn't think much of the MGM - except it's very big. I liked the Luxor, but then I'm a bit of a Egypt freak.
From what I've heard, Bellagio is very good. Haven't stayed there, but of course went for a stroll. View from my room @ Luxor attached : |

I second the Excalibur too. Check out the Star Trek experience (http://www.startrekexp.com/) at the Hilton and go on the Stratosphere observation deck at night. (http://www.stratospherehotel.com/observation_deck.html)
All the hotels have lots of cool things to see, but if you have a few days spare hire a car and drive to Utah and check out the National Parks like Zion, Bryce, Arches, Canyonlands. These are alot more varied and beautiful than the Grand Canyon. http://photosbychris.smugmug.com/gallery/332196 |

Mate if you are after all the goss on all the hotels then this is the website for you.
www.hotels.com its a US based one for feedback and it appears to be all open and honest, we use it all the time for our travels here, just a tip its sometimes works out to be much cheaper to use this to look and review hotels, but then check the actual hotels website as you might get a MUCH better deal. Cheers

I've been about 8 times for work --------junkets and will be there again end of Oct.
Stay at Venetian mostly and Ceasers Palace. Mirage is good also. TI is good budget price right in the middle of the strip. Shows'you ask ?, mate they change often, just go to what tickles your fancy you won't be disappointed ! Just book early in the day as they get booked out before you know it. Just hang around the the hotel bars, some great music and great perving ! Have fun as for Hooters thats lame recommend the Palamino Club !

Spent 5 days in Vegas a year ago. Stayed at MGM Grand..... was okay, but we spent most of our time outside of the room so it wasn't a big deal - if you are on a *cough* "work trip" then the Bellagio would be a waste of extra $$ versus how much time you spend in your room.
For that something really nice- Bellagio or mandalay bay. The saraha had a rollercoaster thru it (like NY NY) but it also has a massive NASCAR bar. when we went down the to the stratosphere, there were half a dozen police cars there with a dude being thrown against the "hood" of the car...... Hubby found hooters a let down, but after one of those toxic drinks Kobayashi has, you wouldn't really care. Ohh, there's a great bar place- has live bands just about every night - something like the bourbon st bar - very very good -
