Default louddddddddder exhaust

sup, i was wondering whether or not if i put a resenator onto my exhaust will it make it louder?

i currently have a 2.5" cat-back exhaust with a redback sports muffler. its not a straight thru system i think. by adding the ressy will it make it louder and still sound good or be one of those shitty little excels with the crappy borp borp sound lol. its an auto if that helps.

cheers neil

you can't make an exhaust louder by *adding* anything. if you have 2 mufflers on there and you replace one muffler (generally the rear one) with a resonator it will most likely be louder...

Hi Neil,

If you add the rear resonator to your current system, it will get quieter. The resonator gets rid of the drone on the highway also. I have the same system as you, but with the resonator and I like it. Others though, would prefer more noise, but I'm more than happy with it.

Correct, resonator removes noise, youd want a hotdog or something to make it louder - basically a small muffler but the pipe goes straight through. It will drone like buggery being an auto tho.

It's pretty hard to get an I6 sounding good - and I mean all round good. ie, has a nice burble at idle, barks/roars loudly when you mash the throttle, and doesn't drone at certain revs/speeds. You can get 2 out of those 3, but not usually all 3. The 2.5" mandrel bent redback (and equivalent) system with single centre muffler and rear muffler/resonator/hotdog are about as good as you're going to get as an all round compromise. If all you want is sound, remove all the mufflers and run straight pipe. It won't be legal, but it will be loud.

I get all three of those, and I also did when using a Lukey 2.5 inch cat back.

My auto had this system before my manual conversion and there was no real drone.

I guess there are different characteristics between cars and each system, although similar, but IIRC the general consensus is that the resonator will remove or reduce drone on the Redback system.

This may of course be different with other systems, on that I can't really speak with certainty.
