Isnt it funny how Ford was absolutely chastised by the media when they announced closure of the six cylinder line, but it seems to me that Holdens recent news of closing down the Family II engine plant barely raised a whimper. 500 jobs possibly lost and not one headline stating "How will these inner city battlers survive!!!!!!!!!!!" :

One of the (Ten) news report was something like... "Holden will shut down it's engine plant and 500 workers will lose their jobs. This comes on the back of Ford's decision to the same earlier this year where 600 workers lost their jobs..." They had to mention Ford in there somewhere, softening to some degree the bad publicity Holden would have received.

two totally different issues, and times, this whole conspiracy theory is a joke with you boys, seriously grow up and get a life. What the world hasn't changed much in the last how ever long, lets not forget its 500 jobs on the back of the complete shut down at Mitsubishi, we all better hope this new Ford sells well, cause otherwise its the death of the Australia motor industry, without Holden there is NO Ford and vice versa, then you will be driving imported Taurus's from the US and the Holden lovers will be driving Opel's from the UK or rebadged Daiwoo's from...Oh snap wait we already are... The whole the media love Holden more than Ford has no impact on the way things are reported in the news....sure the mags might favour one brand but sheesh, pull you heads in..

The one eyed views really are starting to get old very quickly.

i was thinking the same thing when i heard the news. journo's of all medium are fast losing respect with me. seems everything you read or see has got some sort of bias or twisted truth to it to make it more appealing. the old saying, 'don't let the facts get in the way of a good story'.

any mitsibishi fans would be feeling the same thing. the media were all over mitsi australia for years always with a story of doom and gloom and guess what. the large car is now gone. they don't realise that their dribble does rub of on the greater public and give a false indication of the real situation.

for some reason, holden seem to escape this and only hit the news for positive things like hybrid cars and export programs etc.

ford, like mitsi, are forever having to defend their manufacturing of large cars in aus. hopefully it doesn't stop the public from buying fords for fear they will be buying a product that will become obsolete.

I agree with the mitsubishi part. Probably half the reason they went bust, who would buy a car from a company thats going down? No one. The damage that these idiots can do is incredible.

Bit of a different scenario between them, the Holden 4 cylinder has been on borrowed time for ages, everyone knew it was going to be replaced one day, which is as soon as it was replaced by higher tech engines in Daewoos. Ford's case was a total shock to everyone.

Well being given 18 months notice should afford them ample time to upskill and find another job, if Holden haven't found something else for them to do in the meantime.
