I've had a constant problem from the day I bought my T1 TE50 with the oil pressure gauge dropping to zero then the warning light and chime come on. Have had the oil pressure tested, pressure gauge replaced, replaced oil with different viscosities, been to Ford for the official fix (which worked for a couple of months then started again.) I even asked Ford if they could wire the gauge up like the series 2/3 so it always reads 3/4.
I got bored this weekend and decided to replace the battery terminals with some nice looking gold plated Aerpro ones ($19 ea from Autobarn). The wire coming from the alternator bracket is the one Ford put in originally to fix the problem. Took the car for a cruise up the highway and found the problem has been sorted. Looks like the whole time it has been an ordinary earth problem at negative terminal. Thought this may be of some interest to other series 1 owners as I've seen a few posts recently with this problem.

Well done. It's great when you get a freebie "win" like that as they are few and far between.

I take it the "Ford Fix" is the extra wire and crimp terminal you caan see on your alternator? This was only part of the fix. The whole fix included removing the earth from the engine and cleaning the paint from around the earthing loation, removing and cleaning the negative battery terminal along with this so called extra earth.
Good job TE50 027 glad you finally got your car fixed. Pity the so called factory trained experts with all the information at their finger tips could not "Fix It Right The First Time" as Ford like to put it.

I was stoked when such a simple thing unexpectedly sorted a problem which had been driving me nuts for a long time.
The extra earth wire was all that they told me had been done when I took it in last time. Will have a look next time I have a chance to see whether or not they cleaned the paint like you mentioned Tech Trainer. Might be something that's worth doing myself if not already done just for a little more added insurance.
