Default Focus RS aint coming here

http://www.goauto.com.au/mellor/mell...25747F0016E1D3

http://www.carcentral.com.au/2008070...-focus-rs.html

These guys have confirmed it.. the new RS won't be sold here. As usual Ford won't ever bring any exciting products.. ST will have to do.

224kW through the front wheels: No Thanks

I'd rather a relatively ugly WRX STi with AWD than a hot looking Focus RS with FWD:

Something for Ford Aus to strongly compete against the other hot hatches currently sold in Oz would have been nice... FWD or not.

the xr5 does a good job of the hot hatch scene, but it still looks pretty feminine. it looks like they styled the RS based on what FPV WOULD have done to it

no suprise that they aren't bringing it here, afterall that would mean they would be proactive. instead FoA like to be reactive & that takes them time.
i'd be very suprised if FPV ever get the go ahead to do something with the focus even when it's made here, let alone something that will come close to an RS

I love the look of it but if you're going to pump that much kW and Nm through the front treads, I won't be buying it.

Ford Europe dont do botched jobs with their performance cars like Ford Aus and America do.
The RS was engineered by the rally team. They already tested the car with an AWD setup and found it didn't bring a big enough advantage to warrant the extra weight.
With the trick LSD I am sure the car will run fine.

I am not a fan of FWD myself though I own one, I think I would wait until the reviews have been done on this car before passing any judgement.

As for FPV doing one? No thanks, gimme a real performance Focus RS style.

This is why the only profitable part of Ford is Ford Europe. They need to realise that a lot of people still want a fast car without the size and bulk of a Falcon.

As for FWD...

"And if you're wondering how on earth people are going to get that power down, Ford has also revealed more of the suspension. As well as a Quaife limited-slip differential, it will also have a special 'RevoKnuckle' front axle. This alters the steering geometry to reduce torque steer and steering wheel fight.

Ford says it has all the traction and balance of a four-wheel drive machine, but none of the weight penalties."

http://cars.uk.msn.com/News/car_news...mentid=8822732

We shall see I guess but I would of certainly taken a close look at it if it came out here.

Its disappointing that it won't be coming here. I see it as a good upgrade from the XR5. But I do think the price tag would be a little on the high side and the lack of things like cruise and AWD is bound to steer away a few punters. I'd love to see it on the road and in a range of colours different whats available on the XR5. It does look good.

Looks HOT.

If they are so worried about FPV not being able to provide any input into it so its worthy of FPV badges, then why don't they just leave it as a Ford badged product FFS. What difference does it make?

HSV have the Astra VXR and they don't touch a thing on it except the badges.

Idiots!!!!

Sick of the same weak excuses because they don't have the balls to bring in the cars that people want.

Not surprised Ford Australia are not bringing it here. They generally only import top Fords like the Taurus, Mondeo, Cougar and Probe. Couldn't have that "ugly" RS here.

Joking, now that is one seriously awesome looking car.

Its kinda sad that its not coming here. Would have scared alot of other manufactures and boganmobiles off. So what now??? Will this mean we will get a boganised & inferior subsitite from FPV whom have no experience in making an awesome hot hatch. Just stick with Falcons... apparently thats what you are good at doing.

Well I just dont think FPV will be taken seriously if they release a Focus varient equal to what the RS is. Prodrive which i recall owns FPV do have lots of experience with Rally Cars so that might be helpful, but i just dont see it happening. In my mind they will just bang on a bunch of mods, a badge and sell it as the ultimate hot hatch. But those who know the heritage of Team RS will see it as a laugh.

I dont mind certain falcons (the ones with less plastic and all balls)

Indeed. We will see. Mazda's answer with them MPS3 was to limit the power going to the front wheels when it was likely the car would torque steer. It didn't work (and I witnessed how much it didn't work when I took one for a test drive). I believe the RS puts out even more than the Mazda, so if they're not using a similar technique of limiting power to the wheels under heavy acceleration, then that's one hell of a chassis.

What a ridiculous thing to say
