well im not sure if the GT-R should be put up against the zr1 because the GT-R is the stock version of the car the new v-spec will be the hypo version, maybe a better comparison?

ford does need a new hero car. the ford gt might not be the fastest car on the Nurburgring or the top gear track but it is clarkson car of choice . The one he parks in his garage thats got to say something

Don't bring the GT into this, It is the KING.

Seriously, Did anyone expect the ZR1 to NOT be awesome?

I knew the ZR-1 was going to be VERY quick. But I gotta admit, it's faster than I thought it'd be.

BTW here's the video of the 7min 29sec run on the GT-R http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=UBZ5i15yVU8

Yes, thats because his Ford GT kept breaking down on the way to 'work' every day.... It wasnt the most reliable vehicle.... Well, not in Jeremy's hands anyway!

Apparently on the ZR1's run there was quite a considerable headwind on the main straight. I think theres more time in it, probably another 10seconds.

There are too many variables when comparing cars tested on different dates.

It didn't break down as such. It was immobilised.

I know it's semantics, but the aftermarket alarm and immobiliser fitted to the Ford GT in the UK was the problem.

If not for that (why didn't he just have it removed) then Jeremy would still have that car. He LOVED it.

Also consider the car has 540 odd hp as standard and can be easily, reliably & cheaply modded for another 200hp.

The Ford GT is a legend in performance and design.

This is from wikipedia.orgy

It has been confirmed that Nissan is planning to introduce a lighter and more powerful GT-R called the GT-R V-Spec,[11] or possibly Spec V.[12] Nissan has said that this model will be available in the United States in 2010[13][14] and will have 550 bhp (410 kW) (an increase of 77 bhp (57 kW)). It will also be 330 pounds (150 kg) lighter and come with carbon ceramic brakes. With these performance figures Nissan hopes to break the Nürburgring lap record for a stock vehicle.[15] A prototype has allegedly been observed by spectators running laps in the 7 minute 25 seconds range

Both are stunning cars, but I was gobsmacked a few weeks ago when I read that the American car had trumped the GT-R.

The V-Spec will see the GT-R regain it's position as topdog. But that shouldn't take anything away from Corvette's impresive result.

The Nurburg Ring is a very long track, stick both the cars at say Winton or Queensland and they'd be neck and neck.

Personally, I'd take the PlayStation over the massive SledgeHammer and Mullet.

He couldnt have it removed, it was an insurance requirement

You're absolutely right.
Further to that, Jeremy got a full refund on his GT when he sold, William Clay Ford wasn't prepared to have Jeremy Clarkson upset with the Ford motor company. About a month later, Jeremy saw the car still there at the dealership and decided he couldn't live without it and bought it back again.
Later, he traded it on a Gallardo Spider.
