I reckon anything around the $1000.00 mark for a FPV for an agreed value of around 60K is pretty decent.........as long as all the abovementioned points are in the clear. How much are you paying ???????? |

My story is same as Donny, Shannons wanted $1600.00 for our 08 BFGT ended up with RAC for $1000, agreed value $60,000, $600 excess for my wife and I, and $1,200 excess for my children under 25

Definately pays to shop around. Shannon's were a fair bit more expensive then a few other quotes I got, AAMI turned out to be the best deal I could get on my GT-P. Just make sure you get as many quotes as you can before you make a decision, as it seems from this thread there's so many different prices for different people, areas etc.

Remember the big thing with Shannons is you choose your own repairer. I had a no fault claim with them a couple of years ago and was totally hassle free, didnt need to fill in, pay or sign anything, and they accepted the repairers quote with new parts and no haggles.
They won't insure your daily driver unless you show you are an enthusiast preferably with the appropriate car and belong to a car club. You also need to garage your cars. Another way is go to their stand at a car show. Well worth being with them, have been with them for many years now with my cars. I get discount for the three cars on the one policy. |

$2600 rating 1 with discounts is the best I could find when I was considering an FPV. The Golf I ended up buying was 1/2 that price. |

HBF - agreed value $60,000 cost $1000pa. Already had minimal medical with them for just over 6 months. Renewal came last week gone up to $1100.
Thats for a daily driver with no claim bonus

I got an email from AAMI. I could not locate FPV as an option on their online quote system, so emailed them. They replied,
Please ensure that your car was not privately imported car, as AAMI is unable to offer insurance for imported cars. I can see AAMI know a lot about cars.

RACV for me, no hassles in over 30 years of membership, Shannons was $250.00 dearer when I chased up insurance on the AUIII XR8, plus all the question crap to qualify as an "enthusiast" , most people need their cars as a necessity.

Shannons for me. To qualify as an enthusiast is easy, AFF run motorsport events therefore you qualify as an enthusiast. Easy.
EDIT: I should also add how I found them when making a claim. They were a bit prickish because of the way I obtained the driver of the other vehicles details, no where in the policy does it say by what means details must be obtained, but once all that was taken care of my excess was waived. Repairs were easy though although the assessor was a bit of a lazy bugger, but he signed off on everything so all was well. New genuine parts even though the damage was easily repairable.

I'm 27 & my XR8 is with QBE, which is $700 per year with everything on it insured. I used to always use CGU but they wouldn't insure it because it didn't have a stock exhaust??

As Russell said above too....being a member on AFF or similar will pass with most Shannons operators as club membership....the real 'concept' is sifting the enthusiast from Joe Q. But subjective by operator ....

In contrast, my Shannons assessor was very prompt with his call backs and arranging the inspection. I was impressed. Last edited by Silver Ghia; 28-09-2008 at 06:00 PM. |

My brother aged 25 in Cairns has a 2005 XR8 ute. He was insured with NRMA for about $1200, is thinking of getting a capa supercharger for it so rang shannons to get a quote and they Quoted him $980 with the s\c and $920 without. So needless to say he changed his insurance to Shannons.

Shannons seemto be really variable, they were the cheapest by a fair bit on my F6 even though I had a claim (no fault - hit 2 emus) in the last year.

Shannons want ~$1,400 for my GT-P, $800 excess - agreed value of $80k. That's for outer Eastern Melbourne.
The real deal breaker for me though, is they won't transfer my current lifetime Rating 1... I'd been driving my dad's car, so technically it was his insurance policy. So, even though I was listed as the main driver (and the policy was calculated based on my risk), they want me to wait 3 years before I get lifetime NCB back. : |

Well you'd think so mate.....One thing about owning a performance car in NZ is that, although petrol is around 25% above NSW, insurance is a helluva lot cheaper which evens out the overall ownership cost to some extent....My XA Coupe in NZ was $200 a year to insure by memory but that was back in 1983 when I was living there.
