on the other hand the less times you change your spark plugs the lesser the chance of something going bad for example broken plug off in the head or damaged threads,damaged plug lead`s, iridiums for me all the way.

Just replaced mine not too long ago. NGK Irids - looked fine to me when I pulled them out, could've gone for a bit longer and they were in the donk for close to 100 thou k.

Another vote for NGK's (ZGR6B-11) change them at about 30,000k's no drama's.

Just bought some Bosch Platinum Plus plugs (HR 8 DPX) which have a 1.1mm gap. I've read elsewhere that the standard plugs in the 200kw motor were 1.0mm. Is 1.1 ok to run in my car? She's done 40,000km (135k all up) since I got her and haven't had them replaced yet. Nothing wrong as far as I can tell but figure some new ones won't hurt. Looking at the one's in there at the moment you'd be forgiven for thinking they'd never been replaced.

One of the problems a plugs suffers as it wears is the gag increases, so what you will find is it will be fine, but you will decrease life. You can decrease the gaps however, without any dramas. (if you got feeler guages)

Excessive plug gap puts extra stress on your ignitnion coil which leads to premature coilpack failure and likelier misfire.

Hmm, ok, will the extra .1mm make any major difference. I thought the TR55IX had a 1.4mm gap, so why is it the recommended plug from NGK?

The TR55IX actually has a 1.5mm gap. It is listed as the correct plug for reasons even NGK can't explain.

Another reason not to use Iridiums! Mate of mine had them in for 10,000 kl, decided to change them. guess what? Three came out easily and the other three ripped out the threads. Then it became expensive, if you know what I mean.

yes you can find them at all of the above, normally about $3-4 each for standard ones...

those ebay ones, i think i have seen them at supercheap...

Go the iridiums! And do NOT get your car serviced at K-mart.... Surely you can do one your self??
Get it done if your not confident enough- but what this $550 for a full service?
Thats insane- first what type of car, how many kms on the clock, what kms service is it ie 90k 120k 30k, it's different,
But for a full service you could do everything for a lot less than $500 bucks, go to ya ford dealer get ford 15w-40, an oil filter, air filter is your not using an aftermarket one?, get spark plugs, brake pads, diff oil, transmission oil if auto, brake oil, all this is pretty easy, having someone help bleed the brakes also helps, but everything is fairly simple.
If you've never done it buy a gregory's manual for your model, dont be scared and give it a crack.... you learn about your car, do it your self and save your self a few hundred bucks Lol knowledge is power!

Ah the powers of marketing and having field reps visiting workshops every week.
ngk do that very well.
Meh have used couldn't really care, never had a failure using bosch motorcraft or autolites.
Interestingly a tuning sponser here I'm close with wouldn't use irids for quids after his experience's but much prefers the platium's.
I have just put in a fresh batch of Autolite Platiums and I'd doubt a problem down the track will occur.

firing perfect and being a good plug are two things

sprk plugs can have many faults over the life time: tracking, gapping, round edging, wear, blow through, cermic failure .. and yet still fire (somewhat)

google: how to read a spark plug and it will show how to read a spark plug and it tells a good story on hopw well an engine runs

Wow, i didnt realise how expensive the NGK iridiums are, so far from all the stores, Repco is the cheapest, normally $25 each but the bloke there will sell me them for $15 each as its the only stock they've got available for my car and he also wreckons $25 a plug is steep. Im tempted to take them, but as a last resort, how much are Autolite spark plugs for an '01 AU2 XR6, and wats the cheapest place to get them?

Go to Toyota, and get there Iridium plugs, the part number is here somewhere. They are like $5 each.
Also, this is what I pulled out of the fixerupper today:
