Ltrs per 100 calculation

just wondering if i have this right

i traveled 422klm and just put 40.86 liters of fuel in

now i divided the klm traveled (from full tank ) to the liters put in and come up with 10.33l/100

is that the right way to do the calculation or am i going the wrong way about it

422km/40.86ltr= the car travels 10.33km using 1 ltr of fuel

100km/10.33ltr= 9.68ltrs of fuel used per 100km of driving

edit: obviously the more numbers used after decimal place included in calculation the more accurate final numbers will be. Eg; if you done 100/10.3 only outcome will be 9.7ltr/100km instead of 9.68ltr/100km

pretty sure thats how its worked out

Ive always based consumption of my cars based on how long it will drive per litre in other words how much it can get on a tank. The ltrs/100km is used throughout car stats etc etc each to thier own I guess

so going on the figures i am getting 9.68 litres to the 100 which is pretty bloody good for an I6 ??

i dont think it is to bad considering the cam ect that i am running

Highway kays??

My AU Ghia gets about 8L/100km highway 14L/100km around town

My XE cammed with 465 Holley and 5 speed gets around 11L/100km highway and 15L/100km around town.

I consider the I6 an economical motor given it's capacity, power and the weight of the vehicle.

No sir, you're getting 9.68 km for every Litre, which equates to 10.33 Litres per 100km.

Even so 10.33 is pretty good for around town, if you are driving around town that is.

Agree with this. Much easier to use how much distance a given ammount of fuel will take you, (km/liter, MPG) rather than how much fuel you use per given distance. After all you car has a fixed ammount of fuel in the tank, and you want to know how far you can drive with that ammount of fuel, not there is a fuel servo every 100 k's how much fuel do I need to put in.
Can anyone explain how this twisted logic of liters/100km came about? As far as I am concerned it is totally illogical. Give me back the good old miles per gallon, (and the fuel price to match :voldar02: )

Yep, Montys correct.

Litres per 100km means that the higher the number, the more fuel is used, easy.

Just calculate: 40.86 (litres) / 422 (km), then multiply by 100.

Just doing this only once at the servo is an indication only, regardless of how many decimal places used, as the tank doesn't fill up to the exact level each time. Doing it each time you fill up gives a much better indication of fuel consumption of the car, and then you can compare it to the average thats showing on the display.

My 289 windsor gets 11L/100 around town and 10L/100 on highway. It's not worked but it has a bit of poke. A properly tuned motor can return good figures when driven calmly. Not that I heed this when driving my own cars.

If you want to get an accurate average reading, you will need to do this over several times you fill up at the servo. Sometimes you get more fuel in the tank than others.

In the LTD I fill up until I can see the fuel sitting at the top of the filler neck, but with later model unleaded vehicles this may not be possible.

Best L/100Km I've had was on the trip up to Rocky: 17L/100Km on the highway at constant 100Km/h.

Worst is around town with no highway driving, stop and start: 24L/100Km.

And no, I don't have a fuel leak.

I also have a Ford Festiva which generally gets me around 8L/100Km combined driving, or 7L/100Km on the highway. A/C on all the time.

I work out my fuel usage every time I fill up. I think it's called OCD.

PS: Yes, it's number of litres divided by Km travelled x 100.

I get a little better economy on the highway than you, but the city cycle is about the same. Current average is reading 12.7l/100. The figures should also include the average speed...mine is 46km/hr I have a 6 litre.

best i have had my ghia is 9.2l per 100k's and i think the average speed was about 50km/hr or so. half around town(forever stop starting) and about 150 of those k's were highway driving. as soon as it is just driven around town for a week and no highway it jumps to around 13.5-14l per 100. I6's r so bad on the economy side.i hope to get some good k's on a trip tho, as long as i dont sit on more than 100km/hr or 2000rpm

i havnt had my EA long (was dads and he passed away recently), but on gas i did 250 kms towing my ski, and it used 45.2 litres. thats works out to 18.08 litres per 100kms or 15.62MPG. gas uses more litres of course and it only cost $20.30 for the trip.
