Default Former judge gets caught out...

http://www.brisbanetimes.com.au/news...956294401.html

'The former high-profile Federal Court judge Marcus Einfeld has pleaded guilty to making false statements over a $77 speeding fine.

In the Supreme Court today, Einfeld pleaded guilty to the two charges.
...

In 2006, Einfeld had successfully challenged a $77 speeding fine he had received when his silver Lexus was clocked doing 60 kmh in a 50kmh zone in a Mosman street.

On that occasion, Einfeld told the court that a friend, Professor Teresa Brennan, had his car.

It later transpired that Professor Brennan had died in a car accident three years earlier.'

It's pretty despicable behaviour, if you ask me... all over $77? :
I would insert some comment about these are the people that are enforcing the fines... but he was a Federal judge, not State.

t wasn't to get out of $77, it was to get out of the demerit points which would cost him his licence for 3 months (acrued points)

Either way, he’s nothing but a sanctimonious scumbag.

He of all people should face the harshest penalty for such a pathetic attempt of undermining the law of the land.

At every opportunity this guy lied about what had happened. He should go to jail given his position.

i wouldn't go as far as wishing a jail sentence for this, but maybe a hefty fine (several thousand $$$) and a stern warning. and if he was still a judge, to remove him from his position, but since he's retired, well...

A STERN WARNING WTF!

Einfeild was a QC and a Federal Court Judge for 15 years. -one who is supposed to set an example to the rest of us mere mortals-

The offence happened 3 years ago and for the last 2 1/2 years he's been saying it wasn't him driving. He signed a statutory declaration saying it wasn't him and has been denying it ever since!

How much taxpayers money has he wasted over that time through the courts and what do you think would happen to you if you tried the same stunt ?

Cause being in his position a taxi fare would send him broke.

What a tool. He deserves a jail sentence for sheer stupidity.

i wonder if you could use the judgement that was handed down in this case as a precedent when joe blogss normal person gets caught...wonder how long it will be before before someone tests that.

its only a matter of time before someone trots out all the high ranking people like this judge and that Dupont kid in a court to use it to get off his own sentence.............

Good, in such a high position and he tries to cheap his way out of a $77 fine, deserves the 3 years jail he got, went through all that effort, it would have been better to pay the fine rather than serve 3 years jail, wonder if he'll come up with people he's sentenced before, I'm sure they'll have a nice "chat" with him.

+1

Don't forget all the waste of taxpayer money... first the challenge of the original fine in court and now his criminal conviction (though he did end up changing his mind and pleading guilty)

Not to mention the guys career is most likely will be if not already in the toilet. What an idiot, I'd would have just paid that fine if I was guilty.

It's $77, I'm sure the bloke could easily afford it even if it meant losing his licence with the points :

Personally i doubt it was about the money or the points. I'd bet a weeks pay it had more to do with 'I'm a judge, i've got the power and i'm not going to cop a ****y speeding fine' arrogance that affects many (well some anyway) who've held a certain amount of power for a length of time.

There's no way he'll get thrown in with the animals, he'll get protective custody at the least. I don't think he deserves to be bashed or anything worse, 3 years for abusing the system from his position is fair IMO.

My bad, I have had a few beers and pretty sleep deprived otherwise I would have picked it up.

Still stands that he could easily of afforded the fine and it would have done him no massive inconvenience had he lost his licence especially since he is retired.

A good example of things blowing up in ones face :

He'll probably go the the 'guest house' at Moss Vale.

Inmates there used to be able to go down the street, on their own, to go shopping or post letters.
