hey all, i wasnt sure where to put this, i suppose a mod will sort it out.
i took a BA mk2 wagon, dedicated lpg, out for a test drive today. private sale. the car was imacculate, extremely clean, fully serviced by ford for its whole life. car is at its second owner. they are selling it because his wife says its too big for her to drive. taking it for a drive, its so smooth, did everything properly until i decided to stick my boot to the floor. went hard for a second, then started to run like poo, then when i pulled over in the emergency lane it stalled. my bro, me and the owner all looking stunned got out and after inspection and trying to get started again we found the seal for the gas out of the converter had split, spraying gas everywhere. the thing is, i was really impressed by the car, nothing else close in price range/kilometers and condition. if the hose hadnt split i would have put a deposit on it. he is getting it fixed 2morrow(it wouldnt start so i know it will be fixed) and hopefully will ring when its fixed (i asked him too) question (eventually lol) should i be worried, or is it just pure fluke that it died on me like it did. im still keen on the car, but would like your input.

hey there ill give you my thoghts the gas hose is a freak thing look after them no probs as for the car if you like it buy it if the price is right and everything els goes well

Make sure the price doesnt go up to cover the repairs and snap it up if you are still happy...

i'd say get it. it would be a freak thing. if he fixes it, and you are happy with the car, then get it

As noted the car was great before the part failure, i see no reason it should be any worse after being repaired, go for it.
Better it went now so the other bloke pays for it.

Doesnt sound like a large issue anyway so take it for a run after the fix and if it's all good then buy it

Sounds like a freak event. Ive done 150,000klms in my 2 E-gas cars, never had that happen.
Id still buy the car, if the rest of it was good.

My BFII egas RTV work ute had to have new seals in the convertor last week and it's only done 30k.
I would not be deterred from buying it. |

136000km in my egas ute without an issue.
give it another run after he gets it fixed, but it was probably just a case of bad luck.

Like others have said, take it for another spin after he has it fixed, drive it exactly the same as the first time, if all goes well, then buy it, at least he has payed for that repair, better than if you had of bought it, taken it home and then it went a week or so later.

Consider yourself lucky it happened before you bought it, the current owner will get it fixed at his cost then buy it...Things happen, the best of cars is going to have a fault from time to time

Seals wear and fail, it's common and I wouldn't be deterred by it. As said above, be glad it happened on the test drive so that you don't have to pay for it. At least now you know the converter seals are new lol.

my mate drives an egas ute for work , he also gets to drive to and from work in it ( hour drive each way 6 days a week) same model, he has only good things to say about it apart from a bad batch of fuel from one servo that affected nearly the whole fleet some years ago.

A lot of the time a car wont be floored for months, even years. So when it finally does get a boot full, something gives.

well all ended up good eventually.
i got the car! took almost a week for the guy to ring me back. it would appear that they have either replaced a component or gotten a change over/2nd hand converter. he said it was replaced and cost $400. im not overly fussed as it drives perfect. i will fit a new converter soon. it is a white ba mk 2 lpg. it drives soo nice compared to the XG. very happy customer

Well done. For a daily driver, you can't beat a gas Falcon.
