Bit of topice, but still shocked that the Kiwi's buy less than 100,000 cars a year. A lot less.

I guess its a case of dirt cheap near new Japanese imports killing new car sales, no wonder the FCAI hates grey imports so much.

All plants.

Morale has improved a bit, but EBA negotiations aren't going well.

Question. I know of a person who has already put deposit on a Territory but due to the supplier problems (I think ACL) haven;t received their car and haven't got an estimate on how long it'll take.
How much is supplier issues contributing to the figures supplied and FORD sales?

Haven't heard of any supplier problems. There is a waiting list for Territory, that would cause the delay. ACL are still supplying for the moment so there's no issue there.

Australians look at the main stream Japanese and Korean Manufactures for small and medium cars.
For some reason Ford has not had the success it deserves in selling small and medium size cars in Australia since the Escort, Laser and Cortina

Very interesting...

These people were told by the sales rep. that supplier issues had halted production.
Isn't it great that the people who sell the cars (generally) have no idea. I guess they should have asked him to pick up the phone and call head office for a real answer.

yeah i got told there's a 3 month waiting list so i'm going to get a kluger cause my lease finishes up. not too keen on paying full price on a territory now and getting it in 2 - 3 months cause i might end up with an 09 plate car in jan 10

Interesting. I got told a 2-3 month wait for a VM LWB Transit......might have to shop around and find something else, sooner.

thats the problem there are cash buyers waiting but if we can't get what we want people in the same boat like TVS super pursuit will buy something else.

Why is there such a long wait on such a bread & butter car like the Territory? They are locally built, why cant they just build more of them! I'm sure they could find enough Ford employees who want to do some overtime in the lead up to x-mas..

Makes me wonder too, but i'd say it is easier said than done, as its not just a case of running the line for longer, as some areas are running skeleton crews flat out to supply the current demand, just to keep the cost of employee wages down by using the minimum numbers they can get away with. I'd say this would have some effect, and would require more workers to overcome.

Also suppliers would probably need time to ramp up part supplies.

But why they haven't done anything about it while waiting lists are growing suprises me, although maybe its a way of keeping demand up during the slow December/January sales lulls.

Imported components which are "Long lead", and are ordered 5 - 6 months in advance, can't be 'ramped up' and sourced easliy !

Alternate (fast) freight is also very expensive...
