Don't forget Ford AU is designing the new platform Ranger T6. It should blow any R5 pipe dream to the weeds.

On a sidenote, that FPV Galaxie concept was interesting.....

Pity it looked too much like a BA Fairlane. (And yes I am aware that the Galaxie was Fairlane on 'roids to start with.)

That should have been the way the fairlane departed!

Definitely! Needed more publicity. The Galaxie nameplate has quite an Australian heritage...

The trouble is, theres no more fairlane platform to work off anymore. But given the right execution it would have dusted HSV's Grange in sales...

Nah, I think thats what the Ghia shouldve looked like, and the F6 X shouldve looked like the R7 on steroids (which in hindsight was a Territory on steroids) so my make believe F6 X would be totally off the hook!

Here's a better pic of the R7

Taken from here (more pics) http://www.netcarshow.com/ford/2002-r7_concept/

The R5 was a styling exercise that served many many purposes. It showed the world a preview of the up coming BA Falcon 'face'. The interior had the Territory colour palate of black/orange/grey/eucalyptus and theatre seating (higher in the rear). It had some BA trim pieces, note the door trims (below) first shown on the 2000 concept car) and it was testing the waters for both a Falcon based soft-roader (moderate ride height AWD) as well as the RTV ute.

I still have an email on my work PC from the late 'uncle' Geoff Polites (I still can't believe he responded in person, they were special times at Ford Aus) explaining he wanted to take both the R5 and R7 concepts to production but the sales failure of the AU Falcons meant they could only afford to do one of them. In the end that was the R7, aka Territory ;)
