Hi guys, i got a 2.5 inch redback exhaust system put on my Au xr6 ute and was very happy with the note it produced. am now considering some extractors and even a high flow cat. I rang a muffler place and they quoted me 650 for competition pacemakers or 500 for tuned pacemakers, what do you think would be the better option. also said for 800 he could also fit a high flow cat. what do you believe the best setup for my ute would be ?
thanks

The tuned ones are good for down low, Comps are for mid to high range, but you dont loose any down low by any means.
If your happy with the note, Id probably try and get a drive in someones car with extractors, it might put you off buying them. $800 including cat is a good price if thats the 4480's (comp) and a high flow cat installed.

I thinks its more of a raspy and nasally kind of sound, not bad by any means, but very different.

I wouldnt say it would get deeper, deffinately louder, and more raspy, like a saloon car.

mine has what is apparently called "collector noise" which comes from where the extractors merge right in front of the driver's footwell. it's hard to explain, at first i thought it had a leak because that's sort of what it sounds like, but apparently it is just the way pacemakers sound. i think my note changed, i can't remember a great deal cause the catback wasn't on long before i put pacemakers and a highflow cat on...

different extractors seem to have a different tone and pulse to the exhaust note, i have lukey extractors on mine , they seem to give a very pronounced throb at low engine speed, perhaps have a listen to some other cars and see what you like, that seems like a reasonable fitted price.

If you want note, change the muffler. Extractors just make it easier for the exhasut gasses to get out, and while they marginally change the note, a deeper note can only really be had by reducing the muffler size (or removing altogether - not that I recommend doing that).

Back on topic: I had 4480s supplied and fitted for $550 and the hiflow metal cat for $250 fitted. So $800 sounds about right for comp headers and hiflow cat. But make sure its a metal core not ceramic core.

The 4480 suggested retail is nearly $700. But, can usually be found for $600-$650 fitted. Yes, i rate the 4480 headers, i now have them on both AU's. The sound, is something i really appreciate. It sounds very 'compressiony', like hearing each cylinder fire off. Yep, sounds tuff!

That depends on how much power your after. If you plan on going all out later on with cams etc, then probably yes. If your looking at improving a bit more flow for everyday driving, I wouldn't bother unless you have cash burning a hole in your pocket.
Improvements wise, expect about a 2-5rwkw increase at high rpm. Price wise, expect to pay about $250 each
