Default AU XR6 vs. VL Turbo?

The title says it all, which is faster both stock?

just imagine they are both manual or auto with similar KMs considering age etc.. HP 0-100. I wouldn't have a clue as I've never driven a VL, interesting though

VL id say, lighter and being turbo will make it tourqe faster

Stock for stock in VL for sure.. although the chances of finding a completely unmodified VL would be fairly small..

If they were both stock and "new" and it was a Manual VCT vs a manual VL the XR would probably beat it. The Calais turbos did like a 15.6 stock.. pretty impressive for 1988.. But then again it is the best Holden ever made.. as its the only one with a Nissan engine..

The VL weighs around 1250kgs and came out with 150kw, very quick cars. We used to have one, stock standard, spewing dad sold it He bought an EL after it and the VL was in a different league performance wise.

VL turbos in stock form werent that quick. They used to get high 15s from memory. One of the early E series like the EA S pack or EB XR6(cant remember which one) recorded a quicker time back in the day. One of my old mates bought one the same time I bought my EF with a 4.0 manual and he said my car felt quicker after driving in it. After a couple of mods though it was like chalk and cheese.

Yeah I think your right, from memory the EA S pac ran 15.5 compared to the 15.6 of the VLT, cant remember what the EB XR6 did.. A mate used to own a EA S pack with pacies and it ran 15.3's consistently, used to go around chasing auto 185i Commodores to smoke, all in a 4WD height EA S Pack with a 100km/h Speed limited sticker on the back (like the trucks have..), oh to be 18 again!

The old EA S-Packs were very underated machines. If I remember correctly, there was a guy on the E Series forum here who basically had CAI, full exhaust, 3.45 diff and a cam and it used to do 14.3.

Back to the point, the time being thrown around of 15.6 is about right but this is for a Automatic Calais. This would be on par with a manual AU I would think.

FPV's site quotes a 15.5 400m for an EB XR6 Manual so an AU would be similar.

Reckons 15.9 for AU XR6 Manual

So if the VL hits mid to high 15s then its down to the driver.
