Default Doing my bit for the average motorist

This morning about 8am I was heading up to Five Dock in Sydney to have the windows tinted on the recent daily driver I'd bought at the auctions. It's an FG cab chassis ute running on the dreaded (but cheap as) EGAS.
Anyway, traffic was crawling along and had been for the last 3klm roughly; you know, stop start, stop start. So, I was waiting patiently when all of a sudden BOOM. I'm thinking, "what in the ****" and realised I'd been rear ended.
Pulled over, got out and checked the damage.
Me, a mark on the towbar.
The other guy in a corolla; bumper bar, radiator, lights popped and broke their mounts, and a little damage to his bonnet.
He gave me his details, I took photos, he admitted fault and then I drove about 300 metres to my destination. I warned him about driving without coolant but he must have persisted with it to avoid police being called as he needed a tow.
Whilst waiting for my tints, I saw this guys car out the front of where I was and it had basically seized. Myself and a couple others helped push it off the road and further blocking traffic.

So, I'm doing my bit of ridding the world of automotive boredom, one corolla or camry at a time. I might even fortify it at my fathers metal factory incase of another idiot texting while driving.

BTW, I later went by my panel beater and had them check the chassis for damage, happy to report none.
I love cheap as chips daily cars, for if this was the G6E-T I'd be devastated.

Anyone else have a "built ford tough" moment?

The EA was rear ended in 2003. It got hit by a 2WD Hilux (which was fairly new at the time). I felt the thump but decided I'd wait for the light to turn green to pull into the service lane. As I moved through the intersection, I looked in the mirror and saw this Hilux was stuffed. Bonnet crumpled, bumper wrecked, radiator was split, driver's guard was pushed up tight against the door. So for the EA, I expected the worst. It was quite a relief to find it only had the left corner of the rear bar pushed down slightly and a small dint under the taillight. All up the repair costs were $8000 for the Hilux, $900 for the EA.

Rear ended a little buzz box can't remember what it was now ,had best part of a tonne of track plates in the back of the old Xe ute when it decided to pull up on a dime at a set of lights ,well I just plowed it squashed it up to its back window , got out to check the ute and it had a dint on the number plate and one broken clip . Swapped o numbers but never heard from them ,that was 17 years ago so I guess they are not calling but gee I was impressed

good work mate i had a corrola moment like that once too waiting to turn left at a left turn with care sign i felt a massive thud this lady had crumpled in her entire front to the wheels my VT had some paint missing from the bumper but looked ok cause it had popped out again there was some damage behind the bar but i was able to drive off while her car was probably totalled.

I asked her why she suddenly floored it afterwards and she said she thought the light went green i looked at the intersection and looked at her and said but thee is no lights there!! she said oh....lol

In the EF I had a low speed head on with a Hyundai. It had to be towed, we drove away without even a light broken.
Took it to the panel beaters, and he asked if I had hit a Roo. Laughed when I replied “no, a Hyundai.”
Then he says “I love Hyundais, they keep me in business, but my wife and kids ride in a Ford.”

Years before, there was “The Old Brown Cow,” my XF wagon. We were stationary, waiting to turn right, when a ****wit in a Nissan Silvia came over the hill on the wrong side of the road and ploughed into us. We were pushed backwards a few feet. Silvia actually bounced off, completely smashed. The XF was a write-off, but we opened the doors and walked away. Three kids in the back seat barely even noticed.
The ricers had to be CUT out of their POS. Riceboy #3 was semi-fortunate in that he was sitting in the middle at the back, otherwise he would have been crushed as the front seats ended up in the back. Unfortunately he had to be rushed into emergency surgery as the impact ruptured his spleen.
I hit my leg on the stupid umbrella handbrake, and needed it swabbed with betadene.
After that the missus not only insisted that I replace my car with another Falcon, but demanded I replace her car with one also.

I'm just really glad that after a panel shop inspection, there's nothing wrong with it as the towbar stopped the lot. I would have thought the chassis would have been bent (as that's what the towbar is attached to), but no. I may just get little toyota badges with a red cross through them just like the WW2 bombers, and stick them to the towbar.

Got clipped on the rear corner of the tray on my old F100 a few years back. I was stopped in the turn lane, waiting for a green arrow, woman in her Hyundai thought the gap beside me was larger than her Korean cr@pbox (obviously it wasn't).
Damage, to me, a small amount of purple paint on the corner of my tray, to her smashed headlight, bent bonnet, torn LH guard, smashed mirror, crumpled LHF door, buckled roof, bent A and B pillars (definately a write off)
Doing my bit, keeping Australia beautiful, one Hyundai at a time.

I've had the same experience as well. One particularly wet day, some tool in a Vectra decides to leave it to the last minute to brake at a red light, not compensating for the wet weather and goes *thump* right into the back of my EL. His radiator was cracked, the front bumper split in two, and bonnet crumpled. The bumper on the EL had been shunted a little bit, but I nudged it with my knee and it popped back into place, not a mark on it. I dare say he would have been up for quite a bit of excess

Some members on here would know I was t-boned at a roundabout in my SY Territory by a 8 week old Mazda 3 sedan, she hit my rear passenger door and b pillar at approx 50km/h. Her car was a write off and mine sustained significant skin panel damage but mos importantly, my three year old son who was sitting in the rear passenger seat, came out of it with a small bump on his head. That is why I drive a Ford, because I know how much research and pride goes into making the Falcon/Territory as safe as possible. Thank god I drive a Ford.......... Sig worthy!

damage: mine small scrach on chrome
ef hole in bar and bonnet bent

2nd accident
xb falcon(mine) vs. rav 4
rear end me moving, me at slow speed him at speed
damage
mine write off bent above diff(twisted chassis), boot not opening
his bonnet headlights bar

he went under my rear bar and hit my heavy duty towbar installed at repair from 1st accident

That's the best reason to drive one; protection. Whilst we may quibble about the paint on an engine block, the sticker package or the dealers, Ford Australia build world class cars at the top of their game.

On a similar note to yours but at the opposite end of the age scale. In 1998 my father was driving his 1997 NF2 Fairlane down a major road one afternoon when a recent arrival from Palestine on methodone crossed his Sigma to the wrong side of the road and had a head on. Jamal (was his name) spent the next 6 weeks in hospital and a further 6 months learning how to walk again.
My father spent 2 nights in hospital with a couple of fractured ribs.
That's the difference between Ford and lesser cars.

We were all going to the football in my dads old ba xr8 it was only about 2 weeks old anyways we stopped at a set of lights cause they went red we suddenly we got shunted from behind some P plater had not seen the red light and hit us at about 50kms we all got out to find the P players car which was an old mangner was crumpled we looked at the xr and there wasn't a mark :-) dad said to the kid why didn't u stop and he said I didn't see the red light in the end he lost points and smashed his car and we drove to the footy With nothing wrong :-) FORD BUILT TO LAST

last year, was driving some friends to an after party after they completed a show (theatre).
was around 2am.
id missed the turnoff and had pulled over, trying to decide if we could turn at the next street or pull a uturn.

a good minute or so after id stopped we hear a screech and then a bang and we got shunted forward.

hopped out of the car to check the damage.
i had a couple of scratches on the back of my EF fairmont and the plastic bumper had popped out slightly on the left side.

the lady in the FTO has popped out headlights, damaged bumper, damaged grill behind bumper


not written off but it seemed like a fair trade to me

My old XR8 was t-boned on the highway by a navara. Whilst mine was a write off as a result of the side rail bending and the rear axle bending (this was a pretty serious accident), the navara was totalled. Engine was pushed back down into the firewall, front end completely unrecognisable. When the cop that came to see if I was alright, he commented on my XR8 being Built Ford Tough

The other one I remember was, I was a passenger in an XC. It rear ended an ED XR8. The XC's chassis had bent leaving everything else intact whilst the ED walked away with just a mis-aligned bumper, a bent bootlid and some broken taillights.

I made a thread about my accident here recently. Had a VS commodore hit my rear quarter on my project car, then try to do a running on me after 3 attempts of pulling over. Ultimatly I dropped the clutch at 4000rpm and blocked parramatta rd to get my point accross that I will give my life before I let him get away.... Cost him $600+ for me damage. 3 quotes from Panel beaters. Buffed it out for $10.....

Pretty much had the same thing happen to me as the OP ... except it was a 2-3 year old BMW M3 ... driver was texting at the time.

This was in my previous AUII EGAS ute ... with towbar ... I am surprised the amount of damage that was on the BMW after the hit ... all i had was a mark on the towbar.

So this reminds me ... i need to get a towbar on this ute ... mind you I have really needed one recently moving house lately ... I have been using the Territory as the towing unit ... where I really should have been using the the ute as it is cheap to run.

I was waiting at the lights in my XT, and felt this big hit behind. I got out and some guy had run into a pulsar that was waiting behind me and push the car into my rear end. Pulsars boot was none existant, guys , mitsubishi magna was all crumpled up front. Front end of the pulsar was damaged to the point were the radiator was busted. And my car had absolutely nothing, as the puslar hit my overrider. I just said "meh" you guys deal with it and took off in a blaring smoke show in front of them.

I was reversing out of my driveway onto a busy road one Sunday arvo, heard a loud V8 Bommodore coming up the hill so I instinctively hit the accelerator but failed to see the Toyota Lexen behind me...... He needed a whole new door and trim, I just needed a bumper and tail light. My fault, he was OK with it (neighbours son)
