Plus it's the only car ever... or I can think of (besides TopGear's Jeff) to be made with a moustache. And it the tache holds the numberplate quite nicely.

I couldnt wait I bought a XR6T ute today. White with 0 options. Going after market for everything from wheels, brakes, suspension, sat nav etc etc. I wanted an FPV (Foolishly Priced Vehicles) but I just cant see $20K.
Sorry to the FPV guys, they are tough looking but when you scratch the surface & realise you are on the same suspension, brake upgrades are gold plated & you get a leather folder.....ooohh I forgot a track day..It doesnt cut it.

"With the relatively low level of FPV sales, a large part of the FPV price premium goes toward marketing and other costs which are needlessly duplicative to those which Ford incurs." Your observation that $20K doesn't buy much on the FPV reflects that. By eliminating this marketing waste, Ford could undercut Holden Special Vehicles models, and be more attractive on a price/performance standpoint. While Ford has eliminated the XR8 (hopefully temporarily), Holden has gone the other way - you can now option Brembos on a Holden SS-V or a Calais V. Wheels Jan 2011 compared the GS, SS-V and Clubsport R8, and the GS and SS perform comparably up to 100km/h, yet you can buy a base SS with the same performance for $10,000 less than the GS. |

The 5.0 is the first time that FPV has really made an effort. The F6, arguably the best car built by them if you include total duration, is a XR6T with more boost (granted the FG version runs different turbos). Still, development wise they have done stuff all. Holden/HSV have a better package and distinction between Commodore and HSV. And the very thing we (myself included) have bagged them out for all these years is the one reason why they offer more kit. Dropping engines in saves a massive amount of money. Because at the end of the day both FPV and HSV's cars are fast, but one offers a higher level of "uniqueness". FG2 is FPV's chance to shine, if there is no marketable difference from FG1 then its very poor form.

Could not agree more, unfortunately with FPV they simply do not upgrade enough parts to make the cars worth the extra price premium they charge including:
• No suspension upgrades – the stock XR suspension is fine however for a car costing a lot more and pretending to offer much better performance it needs to have a more performance oriented suspension. • Brakes – the base FPV models use the same brakes WTF, the expensive models use better brakes but then you still gotta option up to get 6 piston. • Plastic Body kit – while some may argue the FPV body kit looks better / worse that the XRs it still is not a more expensive item to manufacture. Since the customer is charged a premium the body kit/panels must be technically better than what is offered on the XR (e.g. aluminium bonnets, or adjustable carbon rear wings … ) • Same Wheels – same size as Ford, yes they look better but that does not make them more expensive to make so why charge more? FPV puts slightly better tyres but that’s not enough. FPV should offer a wider rear wheels with a more lightweight construction to really justify the price premium. • Same Interior – a few badges don’t count, better seats are offered on the expensive models but please, it’s a bolt on item that should not cost tons of money. FPV should really start to look into some additional equipment to further differentiate from stock Fords. • Engines – The V8 engine is good, different to Ford’s as they don’t offer any LOL but the Turbo is not worth the premium, as to get the XR6T to make the same power as an FPV would not cost more than 3K. I do agree that HSV does a much better job of differentiating themselves from the base Holdens and hence most people would feel that they are getting a lot more value for their dollars (instead of buying a Holden). FPV styling spices up the look heaps from something like an XR or G series. It's mostly appreciated in the metal. But they don't go and glue things on like HSV just so one can "see the difference". Have you seen how ugly HSV's are now? They hurt the eyes.

Ford up here are doing F6 utes for 48 kay... pretty good value if you ask me but if you want to personalise it then the XR6 T is probably a good option. |

I'll plant Claymores in the FPV carpark if they carry over those raccoon eyes to FGII.
But like others are saying, there needs to be 'more' in FPV products than just a tarted up Falcon. FPV are doing what HSV were doing 9-10 years ago; slapping on a bodykit, wheels and seat trim and a hot motor whereas the market nowadays want something more than that. They don't want a hotted up Falcon, they want something with gear in it that you can't get on the Falcon (excusing the blown V8 of course)

I paid just under $38K, '11 plate etc. 0 options.
I have spent a further $9K on the three B's that make life happy; BBS, Brembos & Bilsteins. All of the standard parts will go back on for sale in 3 years as its my business vehicle. I will spend a further $2700 with ASL for the sat nav, camera screen thing. So for about $49K it will be perfect & still cheaper than the FPV with quality options that have value for me, cheaper insurance & individuality.

As it is, FPV only managed to squeeze out $40 million (chump change in the auto world) for the Miami, but very little to no change to do anything else. Now we will have to wait probably a year or two for the already low sales to dent the recoup costs and then to start spending on the next engine(s) to meet the next emission / EPA targets. In the mean time, there is only enough money / resources to do anything on the proviso that Ford change things on their end. The lack of upgrade needed for the I6 will help for sure, but if Ford themselves don't even know what is going on with the next Falcon, how is FPV meant to do any long term planning? |
