Club Permits

Hi all,

Hoping someone can provide me with some info on the Vic Roads club permits. I've got a XP ute that it not getting driven much because of a work car i've been provided with. Instead of paying full rego i thought i'd join the local car club then go onto the club permit scheme here: http://www.vicroads.vic.gov.au/Home/...lubPermits.htm
The ute still has the original number plates on her, and i know i have to put on the club plates, but i still want the keep the original plates. I was told by a friend to just not hand them in, ignore the letters they send me and that they won't use that plate letter/number combo.
Has anyone does this, or know another way that i can keep my plates if i decide to go back to full rego in the future?

Nup. Only the classic rego plates (my car was unregistered when I bought it, so I had nothing to hand in or hold on to)

In Victoria you can "put a hold on" the plates, they are understanding of old cars and the number plates. They are very obliging, my son-in-law has done the same thing with his XP Coupe.

I recently changed my XP Coupe to club rego and transfered the plates from it to the daily driver, admittedly they weren't the original plates, they were black and white personal plates that looked original

I have a motorcycle im going to put on club rego but i also want to keep the previous number plate.

I can't remember if there is a price, but i've done it before too. Just call 'em and say you want to put the plates on "Self-Retention" (that's the terminilogy they use) and you shouldn't have any dramas.

When i got personalised plates for my ESP i was supposed to return the old plates to VICROADS but i kept forgetting, they only asked for them once. I still have them in the garage somewhere.

Pretty much spot on. Dropped into Vic roads today, just have to cancel rego/let it run out, then tell them i want to do to the "Self-retention" thing, no cost. Very happy I can keep my plates

Sorry, i didn't ask that as my rego runs out in 2 weeks. If i had to guess i would say yes, but you'd have to check with vic roads to be sure.

Dont forget that with club rego, it is a requirement that the club knows, and has written documentation of ALL your usage of the car. You cant just jump in and drive it around whenever you want.

Actually, you can just jump in and drive it around whenever you want, whereever you want and for whatever reason.
Rules have changed - i suggest you read about it first before you post mis-information.

Actually if you took the time to read it yourself, you will note that an up to date log book must be carried at all times, you must also be a club member.So my comment stands.

I am more than well aware of the current legislation reagrding Club Rego.
I know a log book must be filled out, just as i know you can drive the car for any reason you want, to where ever you want, whenever you want, which you seem to believe, by your statement, that you cant.
Doesnt need to be a club run or anything at all to do with the club - which goes back to my original statement about usage.
So, yes, half your comment is correct, the other half isnt as such.

Rules changed in February, you can drive any where, any time, without the Club approval or on sanctioned club events, hell I drove mine to work the other day, with the log book filled in.

The days of only club sanctioned events are over.

And of course you have to be a member of a Vicroads approved Car Club to get the rego, and a representive of the Club must sign the Vicroads forms, but that is where the reliance on the club ends (until rego renewal time)
