Default Boss 494 (8.1L)

Anyone ever heard of a rare Boss 494 that Ford made in the 60s? I had never heard of it until I saw Jay Leno talking about it on this video. It's all aluminium and Ford only built ten of them.

About 15 years ago the Ford Muscle Parts catalogue (or whatever it was called) used to list a 600 cube short motor for drag use

A.J. Foyte also ran 494's Can Am racing after Ford got out of racing production engines.

While the basic Ford Six was code named Barra, the Turbo version clearly deserved its very own moniker – again enter Gordon Barfield.
We asked him if the engine had actually been called “Seagull” and how that came about.
“Actually it was just call “Gull”, because I named it that. Because we knew it was going to poo on everything”.

I'd never heard of the 494 either. WOW

Let alone electric brakes! Bye bye brake booster/hydraulics.
