So the vertical plastic window trim came off my passenger door on the highway somewhere the other day. I emailed the local ford spare parts dealer and was quoted $150.... for a strip of plastic.....which came off due to a manufacturer defect...I asked if they could do it cheaper as my drivers side one had already came off before (i managed to save this one before it flew away), so they gave me $20 off. $20 is how much id expect to pay for a piece of plastic! Anyway, i went to UK ebay to look for it and found it for 19 quid. Total was $45 delivered to my doorstep. How can they charge such a premium on spare parts!?
I know theyre trying to run a business but seriously...$150 for a piece of plastic!? Now they get $0, as ill get it from the UK. *end rant*

Yeah Australia has much higher prices for new spare parts compared to England for example. Wreckers is the way to go I reckon, unless it's not available there. Which is one of the reason I drive an old XF. Really reliable, cheap parts readily available, cheap to run, and when they're done up, they can look awesome.

Unfortunately I think nearly all Ford Oz dealers dont know what the internet is. Its 2011 not 1971.
If we can get them for a quarter/half the price, delivered from the other side of the world, surely they can too. Man I tell ya I have the urge to start a ford spare parts shop and just buy it all from europe. |

Good idea - an independant genuine Ford parts (Europe) trader in Aus (pref Sydney) selling for a third of the price would make a killing with the right business plan.
Ford charge what they can get away with for service/parts as it's where they make their $$: the margins are small in the actual car price. |

They don't make much off the sale of the car, so spares is where it's at.......

We quoted $12,000 for a new front drivers seat in an 1999 DC2 Integra Type R when I was at Honda.
$955 for a new front right Honda S2000 fog light. Unfortunately it seems to be the norm here in Australia with rediculous spare parts prices. |

yes some part prices can take your breath away for sure, i was doing up a 76 nissan patrol years ago, they quoted me $6000 (back when 6000 was worth something)for a crappy old 3 speed box with no synchro on first,
with a bit of research i found a mob that sold specially built 4wd/ 5 speed for $2200, it pays to do some research. |
