Default Locating someone overseas

Mods I know this is in the wrong section but I need an answer.
I'll delete tomorrow.

Overnight I had a death in the family, and another family member is traveling in China for a month, he left Thursday night.
Obviously I need to contact him, to arrange for him to come home for the funeral etc.
He didn't take a phone with him, not sure of his exact location, so how would I contact him?
To me it seems impossible but I thought someone on here might know?

Any help would be appreciated.
