Hello vipa
To be honest I know nothing about Cortinas, but you could try either

Smaka

classicescortparts.com.au/index.php/online-shop

or The Capri Clinic

www.capriclinic.com

both have parts for 4 speed gearbox gearsticks.
I have dealt with both places and can't speak highly enough about either, if it is not listed just ring great people to deal with .

Hope this helps

Have you checked the top of the box ware the shifter mounts ? I am guessing it a single rail type box with the screw in nylon bush which did tend to undo or split

yeap if its the single rail with the nylon screw in bush id be 99% sure its deteriorated, youd probably be able to just pull the shifter right out of where its mount atm...

Had the same problem with my Escort several months back. I'm almost sure it's the gear shifter rail mount bush. Piece of P!ss to fix it up. I took out the console, removed the gear knob, off with the dust boots, expose the castellated flange, unscrew it, & you're there. You'll see a rail where the fork of your gear shifter sits. If there's no bush there & it's just a metal rail, then the bush has disintegrated. I just jumped on ebay, bought my new bush from the seller "Parts_Lunacy" for $20. The nylon ball on my gear shifter had carked it as well, grabbed a whole new shifter from the seller "Performancelamps" for $40. Make sure you check the distance between the thick ends of the gear rail, and check the lengths specificed on parts lunacy's shop. I had to file the bush I bought down a few mm. Before you mount the new bush, fish out all of the crud from the old bush that'll be floating around in there- at least get rid of the chunkiest bits. Clip your new saddle on, mount the shifter fork on the new bush, screw the retaining nut in, whack on your dust boots & you're all sorted.
