So time has come to move one of our cars and last time I used carsales.com.au which I must admit worked well. So naturally I return to sign up and bugger me its gone up to $60 now.
Has anyone else had any success with other sites? Ive heard about gumtree but never used it. Maybe drive.com.au but are they part of carsales? Any links and suggestions would be great.

if you have to pay money to advertise, from experience, carsales.com.au seems to be the go. Ive had stuff on gumtree and other sites but seems to attract a lot of dreamers. Maybe just luck of the draw. you can try "firesport" or even the corresponding forums for the brand of car your selling. I wouldn't waste my time on carpoint/trading post/etc. carsales.com.au definitely a lot better option. GL with sale mate

Gumtree is good and free last I remember but filled with scammers.
I dont know if you have the ability of being able to have something with call divert, but a golden piece of rule I have learnt is that I put my office number advertised but diverted to my mobile. This in the past has 100% eliminate scammers. Good luck.

You know you can put it on here don't you.
Gumtree is a free ad or you can pay to have it at the top of the page etc etc. I sold a shed on Gumtree for $12,000 and I remember I paid about $15 for extras, top of page and I think for one week it was on the first page, so I think it's good. Carsales $60 is for as long as you want to keep it listed I believe. And yes, I agree about the scammers. |

Carsales or Ebay.
I wouldnt bother with any other sites. Maybe the local paper as well. Of course though, if it isnt priced reasonably, it doesnt matter where you try and sell it. |

Not every one Gumtree has it's ups and downs but Carsales/Carpoint would be best. .

i have sold a car on gumtree, its where to list if your not asking much i sold my car for $1500 on there, didn't get any scammers
when i went to sell a $20,000 car on there i got a few, but just ignore them, they are easy to spot. I then listed this car on carsales and this is where it eventually sold.

I've had a lot of luck with eBay and carsales. eBay was alot cheaper than carsales aswell and you won't actually sell it through eBay as such because people will call and view so you won't have to pay a final sale fee on fleabay.
Tried carpoint and drive at the same time and not a single call from them. This was about 18 months ago. With anything though, if you want it to sell you have to price it realistically

Put it on www.quicksales.com.au. Part of the Carsales network and for the car your selling it's free.

I have had positive experiences both through Ebay and Carpoint. Ebay have put their fees up recently. I think the are capped at $100 now if the sale goes through Ebay. When I sold my BA XLS a guy from Adelaide (800km away) bought it off Ebay without even looking at it. |

I would think the best measure of value would be the number of viewers of your car divided by the cost. I think by this measure carsales is the best alternative.
It would be hard to believe that the $60 would not be offset by the greater sale price you can expect from having far more people viewing your car. False economics I think to be skimp on the ad costs |

I personally wouldn't consider drive.com.au.
It has half the amount of cars for sale compared to carsales/carpoint. So I guess it doesn't get as much traffic. |

Thanks all, yes the car is at a low cost <3000 so I didnt want to spend up. Ill try the free avenues I guess and see what happens. Let it go for a couple of weeks then try carsales.
$60 is a bit rich though, what do the others charge?

try facebook in cars buy-sell section in your local area - Melb. may need to join group first. if your not on facebook get someone to do it for you. you can upload a picture with details of vehicle and price. every 24 hours you can bump you free advert back up to top of page to get first viewing.
