I bought a set of F6-E rims about 18 months ago. (dark argents in shadow chrome) For about 6 months they were on my Xr8. As brand new, not a mark on them.
I bought new 20 inch rims and put the F6-E rims on the Mrs Ba ford. They look lovely. Then one day when washing it I noticed damage on the driver side rear rim, obviously she hopped over a gutter going through a drive through somewhere. steam pouring out of my head but got over it, not too bad. Shook my head in disgust and now try to ignore it. Then she calls me today and says she accidently rubbed the other side on the gutter when parallel parking. Im at work in a quiet environment so I cant expode in anger. Steam coming out of my head but had to keep it together.. They always seem to tell you these things in a public place so you cant lose your marbles, by the time I get home from work, reality will sink in that they are only rims. She says "just put the standard wheels on"...... what after she damages them? What do do? leave them on and just ignore further damage as in my mind they are rooted now. Or take them off salvage some sort of respect for them and if not too bad keep them as spares/sell them? Good rims on the Mrs car just doesnt work, no matter how you splice it up. No matter how many times you tell them to go AROUND a roundabout not through it, no matter how many times I tell her to be careful parallel parking or when gutters in drive throughs, go AROUND not through. Sure many would say that its not that bad, not having seen the damage maybe its not but even a spec on it and for me they are off my car. |

It is up to you. You can let her keep using them, or you can change them.
To me I do not think she cares what rims are on the car. If you are worried about more damaged. Take them off, get the reoaired and put them in the shed where no one can damage them or see them. Just remember she did not do this on purpose, and accidents do happen. |

what about putting some different size tyres on(slightly wider with rim protector) to protect the rims a bit?
on another note, some of these places, shopping centres, food places are terrible for getting in and out of, my local tucky duck has large concrete curbs, you have to go through, like a small race track of the bloody things, it`s tight getting a smaller car through let alone a bigger car. I gave up long ago trying to help my wife keep her car, its wheels, exterior and interior and everything else looking mint. If she's not a motoring enthusiast as is the case with my wife you might as well fart into the wind on a stormy day for all the good it does telling them how to look after their cars.
Accept the inevitable that she'll do even more damage to them as time goes on and base your decision on that. Its clear you value them and she doesn't and that won't change anytime soon. My wife backed her car into a tree the other day I asked her in a super sarcastic tone if the tree had moved or was she blind No nookey that night Last edited by Rodge; 09-07-2012 at 02:07 PM. |

265/60R17 on her Prado its pretty hard to scratch the rims but evidence suggests she has a good go at it.. the tyres are constantly scuffed
Unfortunately for you I think the size would look a bit funny on the BA

I told her its not a dodgem car.
when i push she just says take them off if I dont like it. But she likes the look of them. Maybe the standard fairmont 16's might get a recall to the run on side. Or just leave the FPV rims, if she bashes them she has to drive it and can handle the enquiry when people ask what happened to them.. actually maybe now the theives might leave them alone as they are scuffed. |

Is it her car or yours?
Keep on it and you wont have a missus at all, then you dont need to worry about "her" rims. But what should you do.................. make a thread about it of course. Or you could make a decision for yourself - just for once. |

Why dont you just get them fixed? Then to prevent furthur damage grab some tyres with the gutter guard feature (achilles are a good one for gutter guard) or fit rim skins

they can't get any worse now. If she has a track record os scuffing them then they're going to get scuffed.
shame they weren't like mine. I would buy a pair as i want to have them widened to 9.5

It sounds like you like the look of them and she does not really care. I agree with her, take them off if you care so much. |

Leave them there, who cares if they get scuffed more. She obviously doesn't.
I think your wife must have the patience of a saint. |

Give your missus a medal... If she puts up with you so could be purposely driving into gutters as a form of stress relief... I know I've considered it after reading some of your threads!
Honestly though, if she is continually bashing into gutters she either doesn't respect / care for nice cars, or she has no idea how wide her car is. In either way, take off the rims and put on some 16" steelies.

Then when she scrapes the unmarked ones you will have a matched set and can tell people it's a 'feature' common on city cars.

I'll put my hand up. My unit complex has limited parking and I often have to squeeze by 'creative' parking. In the process of doing so, I've scratched up my F6 rims a number of times. It happens.
I'll only give this a 4/10 Hulk thread. |

Pointless thread.
Either leave them on or get them repaired. |
