Default Ford employment

Chanel 10, 10am today announced that Ford is laying off 500 workers from 2 plants in Victoria. Where's this going to end?

More??? Or is this old news from last week?

I think 2016 end for Falcon is a bit optimistic...

I hope the extra 100 come from the marketing sections.. If they did a better job selling these cars maybe they would not need to lay people off.
In the last week i have made a mental note to watch the adds on TV.. guess what, not one Ford add. I see Holden, Toyota, mitsubishi etc.. but not one ad on any Ford..
Sorry Ford, but that is friggen shocking.. You muppets need to pull your heads in.

actually the figure they quoted was 440...... last week
and now your saying a further 100 ??
So 540 all up??
And we gotta listen to Swanny parading around yesterday talking up Australia's economic prospects, while it seems people by the 100's each week are loosing their jobs???
They are forecasting unemployment to go from 5.2 to 5.7% by November, they seem to announce this like its something to gloat over.
For every person that looses their job creates a snowball affect, which they blindly dont seem to recognize.
I feel for every single person that looses their job through no fault of their own, it's just terrible.

While this is sad news for the employees, unfortunately it is not just FORD that are feeling the stress of the economy at the moment.

Things have a way of going in circles...Please lets not turn yet another thread into a bashing of Ford. They are doing what they have to, to ensure that the brand lives on. You can not blame them for that.

Cheers
Col

I'd say they added the CMI job losses to last week's figure, total car industry job losses over the past 2 weeks would be 500+.

At this point in time, the usual media suspects who live to bash Ford are silent on the issue, they would have said something by now, so I would suggest it is as FPV suggested above and they have thrown CMI's shutdown into the mix.

I can't seem to find anything on another 100 jobs going at Ford so I'd say its just the typical media bending the truth for a bit more shock factor.

While manufacturing in Australia is not exactly flying it is important to note that it is not all doom and gloom in the Australian economy, the constant negativity from the media is not helping anyone. Companies like Ford just need to get smarter and more efficient if they are to thrive, laying off workers is because they have not reacted to market changes, they are catching up. Have a read of this recent speech from the RBA it gives the facts and not just the catchy headlines.

The economy is running in a two speed mode, which is not all doom and gloom, but it is not good for businesses that aren't benefiting from the mining. The economies within Victoria and NSW more so are not in good shape and there appears to be no stimulant or work being done to kick start these economies, not at least until the banks are in a position to start lending again.

I remember hearing this on the radio, but when I searched for the news of that day, couldn't find scratch.
And to my knowledge, it wasn't repeated in the evening bulletins.
Sounds more like a journalistic mistake on last week's news.

the Country is now starting to see the problems caused by the government letting overseas company's flood the market with products that make it harder for our companies to thrive where they should be, for the automotive industry I personally think that the luxury car tax should cover all imported cars, not just the expensive ones and the governments state or federal should provide more insentive to buy Australian made with like a rego price drop or rebate or something.

So in effect forcing the majority to buy a product they may not want or like all because of their financial status....?

Would this include the current crop of imported Ford's....?

It's not forcing people to do anything, but most places in the world tend to look after the homegrown manifactured products, unlike Australia at the moment, it seems to be across the board, not just automotive.

its, not like a corolla would be $45000 plus on road costs. but the revenue raised from this would more than cover everything

If product A (Australian) and product B (Imported) are competitively priced and within my budget i have a choice.....

If product B is priced out of my budget then i don't have that choice.....

Very simplistic i know, but that’s how most people live.....
