I just renewed my 5-year NSW driver's licence and was pleasantly surprised to find that it was half price!
Why?....because I haven't been pinged during the last 5 years. The purpose?...."The current penalty regimes, which include the application of fines, demerit points and licence sanctions, have proven to be a strong incentive for drivers to obey the road laws. While penalties do play an important role in influencing driver behaviour, the ‘Fair go for safe drivers’ scheme complements the penalty regimes by providing a balance to reward drivers who display safe driving practices by remaining offence free over a long period of time." Personally I have some doubts about the correlation between how safe a driver is versus how often they get pinged, however this nonetheless seems like a good initiative. The incentive scheme was introduced in NSW on 01 Jul 12. Here's a link: http://www.rta.nsw.gov.au/licensing/...ml?laid=fairgo So how about that, a bit of carrot, not just all stick! I wonder how long I'll have to keep driving to recoup all of those old speeding fines? Last edited by Bam; 23-08-2012 at 06:03 AM. |

Damn! My license doesn't expire until 2015!
I love the idea though - I would have expected the government to penalise those who do not have a clean license than to reward those who do! This initiative doesn't make them money.....

Well, i was hoping they'd either give us a discount or let us get away with higher speed tolerance. i reckon with a 'gold' license you should be allowed to go faster as the incentive, but this should work quite well, except for pensioners who don't pay for their license anyway.

Unless they reset the clock on the incentive scheme because they changed something, this has been in place for years. Gold licences have always received a discount - I just don't remember how much since it's been 4 years since I renewed mine (and 5 years before that).

Not much incentive if your licence is free!

My last licence renewal was discounted. Drove like a manic for 5 years of the 10, then calmed down for 5! Thanks VicRoads

* 1 year = $52 * 3 years = $122 * 5 years = $162 So buying in bulk was cheaper, and still is. But this scheme is new, ie. 50% off the figures above. My new 5 year licence cost $81. Not as good as free Bucko, but pretty good. Sorry Pineapple Heads, but you had a good run for a while with your subsidised fuel prices, so it's time to pay the piper. What's the story with Mexicans? They're not all stick? That seems unusual! Last edited by Bam; 24-08-2012 at 12:04 AM. |
