Default Question about ADR's

Hi All,

Im on the verge of buying a TC Cortina V8. Ive found one that was built OCT 76. Its had all the appropriate upgrades done to it (brakes etc) but it will need to be engineered.

My question is, will I need to do an emissions test?

Any info will be appreciated. Thanks guys!

I think rules differ state by state / territory.

Where will you be trying to get it on the road?

Sorry completely forgot to say that I would like to register it in the ACT which I believe follows the same rules as NSW?

You won't have many ADRs to worry about but if its the same as NSW you will have to comply with the code of practice for modified vehicles. RMS has all this info on their website.

One thing worth mentioning is that if the vehicle has not been legally registered with the V8 conversion before there will be no record of it so you will be subject to todays regs which limit the capacity of the transplant engine based on the weight of the car. I don't know what your car weighs but if its less than 1100kg you will have big problems getting a V8 certified.

Its all laid out on the website and its pretty easy to follow.

Your best bet is to talk to a certifier before you buy the car or you might end up with something that is horribly expensive to get registered. You can get nearly anything registered under Individually Constructed Vehicle policy but its a long hard expensive road and if you just want a nice streeter check all the regs thoroughly before outlaying your cash on the car.
