Hi Guys,
I thought I would start up a thread regarding the Sh*tbox Rally and see if anyone has taken part in it before and to share your experiences. I have known about it for a few years, and missed out last year, but a mate and I have been accepted for the 2014 rally and are about to start fundraising. The website is www.shitboxrally.com.au, but the general scope is to aquire, service and repair an old car for less than a grand, and drive it 3500km in 7 days across australia. Our route is Perth to Darwin via the Kimberley, so you'd be thinking that a cheap but robust, strong and reliable vehicle would be on our horizon. Not really! We have our sights set on a 90's Festiva 4 door, primarily because it allows us to create something unique in the field of 200 cars and compared to previous years. Welcome Team Monsters" A little know short clip from the original Monsters Inc movie titled "Mike's New Car" In a broad stroke, we plan to recreate as closely as possible whilst retaining room for our stuff and us. Number 1 design idea is a custom spare wheel carrier at the rear with the rear "axle" lowered when stationary and raised when moving, foam and filler to extend the body. We'll even look at the quad tips, massive flares and 2 MEGA wings. Both of us race and enjoy cars as well as creating stuff, so this will be a labour of love. Both have lost family to cancer and will be fundraising soon. I will post here, but a lot of our pics and comments are on FB facebook.com/MonstersInc2014 So keep an eye out!

This would be an awesome thing to be part of if you had the time. Looks like a lot of fun.

My mate Danny Booby has done it a couple of years and absolutely loved it. He is currently preparing a Subaru for the next one.

What's his team name revcore? I'll keep an eye out for him. It'll be time consuming, but we have 10 months to smash out the fundraising and prep a car.
Thank god the Missus's are backing us |

I think there were two such era transits. Obviously that's the Channel 4 News van form nchorman, and that was the team theme. At the end of the rally, all cars are auctioned off to put further funds toward the cancer council.
I have a teammate who's dead set on our current theme, and both being ex army, we're not afraid to sleep on the ground (I will take a tarp in case it buckets down), but future cars may need to involve sleeping/couch/tv provisions such as the old news van! At 6'1" and 115ish, I also think I'd prefer a bigger car any day of the week after this event!! |

It's been a busy month, but we're not only in, but we have a car and a FB page.
Our illustrious ******* is a 2000 Ford WF Festiva Trio, affectionately known at "Festicle" We have a facebook page: https://www.facebook.com/MonstersInc2014, and even a fundraising page https://shitboxrally2014.everydayhero.com/au/jeff We're asking for donations to reach above and beyond the minimum required all in the name of Cancer Research. The Facebook page will document the build up of the car, and I'll be linking pics etc to here as often as possible. Cheers.

Good luck bud, I have always wanted to do something like this.
I have a customer who has this and competes in rallies. Little bit more than $1000 in it but still awesome. Its a 1923 Vauxhall 60. It has covered Peking to Paris, London to Cape Town and recently Across and down South America. Currently on a ship to England to drive back to Africa.

Hey Mack, just flicked a redback your way.
Keep us posted on the build and have heaps of fun on the rally - sure is something I'd like to do "one day". Cheers!

Haha, my initial thoughts for a ******* was a VN!!
Thanks for the coin supershifty! Is there a name you'd like on the car? We're keeping a list of friends and family affected by cancer to write on the car. Rancidpuncz tell your mate to turn that boat around. I'll have it for my daily. It may be more than a grand, but its also far from a *******

Well Mack, I suppose you could pen "Lionel" on Festicle for me. He was my paternal grandfather. Died at 67, went in for a routine op on his stomach and they found him riddled with cancer - bowel, kidneys, pancreas, he lasted 6 weeks.
Cancer is such a cruel disease, some families get nailed with it. Mine's lucky in that respect, we specialise in heart attacks and strokes! Cheers!
