Default Holden closing Lang Lang test facility.

According to Paul Gover in Carsguide, Holden will close Lang Lang when product development finishes here.
Would Holden be generous enough to donate the facility as a Motorsport development facility and club race circuit?
Can only hope someone will buy it and make it available to the public.

I also said in another thread that it should become a race track. Doesn't have to be for big time events, just something for club and grassroots events.

This is it on Google: https://maps.google.com.au/maps?q=Pe...ed=0CCkQ8gEwAA

A lot can be made out of what's already there. They don't have to keep the "speedbowl" though. The circuit inside the bowl could be joined with the other tracks within the property.

Hopefully they will donate it to some car club as a mine manager did here in the West,he gave a car club the mine workshop area buildings and all to use as a race track . look up Collie Motorplex, or could be Kosteki (spelling) think they are the major sponsor, maybe wrong as I have am not involved in it and have only been there once for historic bike racing which was great

What's happening to the You Yangs proving ground? Is Ford keeping it, or has there been no word yet on it?

Why on earth would GM donate it? Lovely to think that multinational businesses do this sort of thing, but it doesnt happen.

The site has an estimated value of $20 million according to Drive. (http://news.drive.com.au/drive/motor...219-2zmf7.html) so I doubt it will be donated to anyone or used other than for commercial gain.

Hi. It will be a long time before they need to use that parcel of land for housing, it is surrounded by farms. The high fences and heavy scrub around the boundary would lend itself to an animal reserve, maybe a park for old lions (pun intended). Cheers MD

Oooooh, I'd love to see a V8 SC event on that oval, ummm circle.

That would be interesting to watch. Something like that could put the series on the world map and attract some of our North American cousins who follow NASCAR to have a look at our racing.

Never gonna happen, I know, but it would be a fun race.

Cheers,

Kraig

No, that's all gone. They will do no development here, bar maybe a few engineers who will do a little bit of suspension tuning work to get the suspension set up for our conditions, but Holden have already said they can use outside facilities for that like the Anglesea proving ground etc.

Maybe they could also use the You Yangs facility lol. Ford does allow other manufacturers to hire out their facilities there.

Shame. I've been there many times. Got to meet a guy called Alan George who worked at Lang Lang for five decades until he retired (he started working as a test driver in the late 1950s). Nice bloke with many interesting stories of what it was like in the 'good old days'. He even took us around the high speed banked circuit where I first experienced high speed lateral loads - at approximately 180km/hr on the outside lane it felt like I was sitting upright even though the circuit is banked.

https://maps.google.com/maps?ll=-38....hl=en&t=h&z=11

The facility could be used for on and off road racing.
