Default Turns Heads – timeframe for a car to be ‘cool’…

I parked the other day to a original HR Holden…. The elderly lady thanked me for my praise. She told me she gets them all of the time.

...as against my local TAB is a beige XE Falcon GL column shift and bench seat. Original plates.

Thoughts?

Sorry but EH and HR's have always been cool, even when brand new, especially in a Premier. As for the XE, well time will tell. Paint it red if you want some attention, the ESP are a great looking car.

You've got everything going for you. A beige XE has got to be right up there.

A nice original 70s' and before, aussie car will always get my attention and a thumbs up, . I have a special soft spot for HQs' though.
Some how, the 80s' and on just doesn't cut it for me once plastic bumpers were introduced.

im loving the big engine low power thing.. so either a HZ premier with a 87Kw 253 v8, or a vk calais with a 120Kw 5.0... now that is cool... the VT series 1 Hsv's also fall into this category, particurarly the 5.0 185i clubbie...

just a thought..

You are comparing a 'Classic' pre 70's car with a 80's 'post classic'.....two different things and the HR doesn't have ANY plastic parts.

XE ESP now that's another story!

Well said, I too like 'em classic & not plastic!

I also agree with the 2'nd post here, EH/HR has always been cool. Don't know why but I have ALWAYS like the shape & with a rough idleing six under the bonnet with an exhaust that would cause nose bleeds....that's a sweet car!

HQ's are next on my list, then the Brougham.
Then I shift in to Chrysler mode...."Hey charger"!

Speaking of non plastic cars...I remember the saga years ago of an old mate who got rear ended while driving his XB coupe. A woman in a gemini was riding his butt so he slammed the anchors on to send the message & the woman hit him doing 60kph. I looked over the car (the XB) & the only damage I could find was 2 paint chips, 1 on each quarter panel where the chrome bumper made contact on impact.
I went for a drive to see the gemi', sitting on the roadside bleeding to death, coolant all gone, bumper on the ground, grille in bits on the road, smashed headlights & much folded metal!
Gotta" love the old school cars eh'!

A lot of cars become cooler due to their age. You notice something older due to its rarity. Doesn't matter if it's a crappy car like a Datsun 120y, you see them and they have a coolness due the surprise they have survived and the fact that someone looked after it long enough to keep it on the road.

This.

It can even apply to some more recent examples. I honest-to-god rarely see a ED XR, or a VN-VP SS on the road. Let alone their rarer counterparts (EB GT, SV5000).

And those folk will always get a nod from me if they've kept it presentable.
