My housemate has a 450rwkw Supra and it's just insane. Brings a smile to my dial everytime he takes me for a ride in it.

Servicing a VW costs an arm and leg.... Had a head gasket just go in my old TDI golf, cost.... $3,500 just out of warranty and only done 100k on the freeway all its life.

You can expect any car to be expensive if you only service and repair it at the dealership.

VWs are becoming very common and I know there's some good independent mechanics out there who know these cars very well. Their prices are much more reasonable for general servicing.

But OP doesn't want a VW anyway he said, so let's not waste too much time talking about them.

in good nick the lexus is a top luxo barge, the soarer in the v8 models is a well made sporty luxo barge , but an 86 they are not,

i would probably go a jz supra for hot up duties, theres still plenty of hot up parts for these in the states.

Too bad Toyota didn't put the 2j in anything slightly attractive
too each his own, i actually thought the jz body without any of the aero crap on it was actually very cool looking,
even the MA70 looked pretty slick with the buzz saw wheels on it.

Some people do go quite overboard on them. Personally the only Toyota sedan I'd have would be a jzx100 chaser

winding up the boost sounds pretty simple. but performance is never that simple

old school performance is pretty much the same as your import stuff. think xe with Cleveland, cam, intake and carby and you make cosistant power for 10ish grand. r33 skyline will need work and will cost about the same to make the same approximate power and still be less reliable

it can just as easily turn out bad either way tho. that's performance for ya

I didn't say once that the car was going to be cheap. R34s and S15s (which is what I was looking at when I started the thread) go for 20-25k for a good JDM import. For a 10-15 year old car, that's not cheap. The difference being that I don't want to have to spend ludicrous amounts for simple upgrades.

You might be able to pick up a nice R33 GTR for around $25K

See I was thinking about going for a 33GTR but I looked at a couple 34s and I think I could manage the lower power output and power ceiling for how sexy they are compared to 33s.
